City hall may remain on summer hours year round

Memorial City Hall may keep its summer hours, minus the summer portion.
The council will discuss keeping the South Street building open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., instead of moving the schedule later one hour as it usually does after Labor Day.

Council agreed to start the summer schedule a month earlier this year, in June, and postponed deciding to keep it throughout the year.

Councilor William Graney said he wants to talk to two office staff members to see what would be more beneficial, having another hour in the morning or in the afternoon. He said city clerk Debra McCormick and the treasurer's office might be able to determine what's better. However, treasurer Chris DeProspero recently took the office and was moved from a different department.

Graney said he would make his determination based on the number of people.

He said no one has suggested city hall remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the workers' hours staggered.

" it would be very helpful if City Hall could remain open later at least one evening per week. Whether their hours are 8 to 4 or 9 to 5, I and many others work during those same hours. I know that I personally have had difficulty getting there during the day to get business done. Maybe they could stay open until 6 or 7 on Thursdays? "

" I would like to suggest that City Hall be open 8aM TO 6pM with hours staggered to offer greater accessibility to all the great government services the people get from the City of Auburn for their tax dollars. "
