Readers ask about various concerns

It's been almost a year since I started sharing some behind-the-scenes thoughts from The Citizen's newsroom in this weekly column, and wouldn't you know it, I've run out of things to write. Well, not really, but for this week's version, I thought it would be better to address a few unrelated issues that have popped in the last couple of weeks.
€ I heard from a loyal reader recently who observed that we always publish the Mike Reagan column online when it runs in the print edition, but we never post Amy Goodman's columns on the Web. The observation was that by doing so, we're showing a bias toward the more conservative Reagan over the more liberal Goodman.

While we would like to publish both columnists at www.auburnpub.com, we cannot because of the agreements in place with the companies that syndicate the two writers. Goodman's syndicate places restrictions on Internet use of her work, while Reagan's does not.

We began running these columnists on our Saturday opinion page, rotating one after the other each week, in an effort to offer a range of opinion on national and global politics. We'll try to find a way to bring that to the Web product, too.

€ I got an e-mail from a reader who was having trouble posting an online comment below a story at The Citizen's Web site.

It turned out this reader had simply been entering the wrong password, not the one he had created when he first registered to post comments. We sent him the correct password and he was able to use the service, which we call Citizens' Say.

This incident reminded me to remind readers that they should not hesitate to contact us if they're encountering difficulty with one of our online services. Sometimes it could be a technical issue that we're not immediately able to see, so the sooner we hear about it from online visitors, the better. In other cases, it could be as simple as a forgotten user name or password.

Whatever the situation, let us know and we'll do our best to get the problem fixed.

€ A couple of weeks ago I wrote about our Go Green special section that will be coming out in the fall. As part of that section, we're looking to hear from readers who have discovered small ways to help the environment in their everyday life, whether at work, at home or at play. Please send your stories my way. Who knows? Your words could inspire another person to do the same.
