FLEMING - An Auburn man was killed and three people were injured in a one-car crash Tuesday on Route 34 in Fleming.
Timothy Meehan, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by Cayuga County coroner James Dolan.
Kelly Woodman, 35, of Auburn, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and is being treated for a head injury. Woodman's in guarded condition there.
Michael Heller, 47, of Livonia and Richard Reed, 38, of Auburn, were taken to University Hospital in Syracuse. Heller is being treated for a head injury and is listed in fair condition. Reed suffered a severe head injury and is in serious condition.
State police report Meehan was traveling south on Route 34, attempting to pass another southbound vehicle. Troopers said as Meehan entered a right hand curve, he swerved onto the left shoulder of the road to avoid an oncoming northbound vehicle and lost control. The car traveled back across the road and struck a culvert. All three passengers were ejected as the car became airborne. Troopers said speed and unsafe passing were contributing factors to the accident, which occurred at about 7 p.m. near the Glanville Road.
The Fleming and Owasco fire departments, Rural Metro, Cayuga County Sheriff's department and TLC assisted at the scene.
