Each Wednesday, The Citizen features someone in the food services industry from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks: This week, we spotlight assistant dairy manager at Wegmans Jeff Streeter.
Q. What is the one food you cannot live without? Why?
A. Fruit, basically. It's filling and healthy.
Q. Fill in the blank. People would be surprised to know that even though I work in the food industry, when I am at home in the kitchen, I __________.
A. Actually don't use a lot of dairy products.
Q. What do you like most about living and working in the Finger Lakes region?
A. I grew up in Rochester, so it was a shock to me how laid back it is. I like the safety of it.
Q. If you were given $1 million to open your own restaurant or bar, describe the bar or restaurant and what type of food you would serve.
A. It'd be a restaurant, probably. It'd be exotic, to let people become familiar with different food and drink because a lot of people can't afford to travel.
Q. Where would it be located?
A. Somewhere in the Finger Lakes - near or on a lake.
Q. On the day of your restaurant/bar's grand opening, if you could select anyone in the world to be your first three guests, who would they be?
A. My three children.
Q. Describe your most embarrassing moment while working on the job.
A. I can't remember having one, to my knowledge.
Q. What is your favorite junk food?
A. Probably cookies.
Q. What have you learned are the top three ways to run a successful food business?
A. Communication, honesty and respect.
Q. If you weren't working in the food business, what would you like to be doing?
A. Probably retire or semi-retire.
Q. Ughh. What's the one food which you absolutely can't stomach? Why?
A. Spinach. It's too slimy if it's cooked.
