Two Cents

I think our Auburn school system needs some revamping. If David Lansford can't see that I think he'd better retire.
Thank you for the Two Cents momentary respite from the stupidity that has taken control of the world.

This message is addressed to all of you lazy, non-working people who use your pent-up energy to disrupt our neighborhoods with your physical violence and foul language every weekend. There are plenty of job opportunities for you in Auburn, but maybe you are under the illusion that these ordinary jobs that could uplift your life and turn you into a more respectable person are not “good enough” for you.

To the person who knows very little about baseball, Barry Bonds was a late-comer to the steroid era. If you want to look for the king of steroids, look closer to St. Louis.

To the person who sees no big deal about the Nice'N Easy not rebuilding in Union Springs. It's because Lakside does not pay any taxes and is unfair to other businesses in the area.

It's simply amazing that in Family Court a 17- and 18-year-old boy can decide how 25 percent of dad's pay ought to be spent and dad has absolutely no input. Men of the world unite and take charge of your families.

" Bobbo, they only freeze the bank accounts if the "payee" is hiding funds from under-the-table jobs..Or have family bosses that say they aren't working there...Yes usually if they have a job they just deduct support weekly out of pay..And if the "payee" is behind over 500.00 by Oct 31--they will take your taxes when you file them..ALSO once the child becomes 18-the child can file a suit against the "payee" to collect what is due to them--should the parent not have the funds the child can then put a lien onto the parent untill all monies are paid..most payees don't know this. "

" I'm not sure, but I think a deadbeat parent who loses his license has the opportunity for a conditional license in order to work. As for freezing bank accounts, don't they automatically deduct child support from the paychecks and have it send to the parent w/child like they do in most other states? "

" I agree about Union Springs having potential to be a beautiful, quaint, town like Aurora, and I too find it strange that a car dealership is in the middle of town. "

" I've seen both ends of the child support situation -- there are deadbeat parents who don't pay for their kids (my dad made a bundle in the computer industry in the early days and shorted our checks every month while he went on 8-10 vacations a year and bought every toy and adult could ever want). But I've also seen non-custodial parents asked to pay way more than was reasonable. The problem is that when you split up, there are two households to support, and if the parents were only just barely getting by BEFORE they split up, it's going to be beyond-tough afterwards. And most likely each of them will blame the other, after all, they disliked each other enough to split up in the first place, right? But I've also been a divorced parent in a completely amiable divorce, where we kept right on working together as parents after we split up, just parents in two separate households. I realize we had a rare but lucky situation. But here's what happened in this case -- the System is not set up to handle parents who get along and no one is trying to scr*w the other one over. We have totally equal shared custody, no parent has more than the other -- and we have had no end to trouble every time we have had to deal with any government agency. Did you know you aren't even allowed to apply for public assistance unless one parent only has more custody than the other, for example? The System is not set up to accommodate people who actually get along and cooperate in the raising of their children after divorce. The System has caused us more grief than our divorce did! So, yes, there are jerks of both genders on both sides of the fence, and there are lousy parents in and out of marriages, but there is also the System which often makes things worse rather than better. " Union Springs is a quaint little town and should maybe get a nice open area restaurant..plus a couple of small shops to add to it's look..Though Nice N Easy may not be able to compete with gas prices they could compete with other products if they choose to reopen. I have always wondered why is there a car lot in the middle of town ??? "

What happens after the cayuga's suck the life out of the village? They own over 2 million of taxable property in the village right now. I would think it would die over time. "

" Lansfoed needs to go period. He along with the entire school board. Their sneaky, back door hiring of Pabis is a perfect example of why they don't deserve to be sitting on this board. Oh yeah, lets not forget raising Pabis starting salary almost 10,000. above Plumes'. And to add salt to the wound, Lansford says we the taxpayers will pay for his moving to the school district. Hey Dave, he should have been living in the district he was working in all along, and at $155,000.00 he can afford to pay for his own move! "

" "justaround" I SOOOOOO agree--I know of someone who gets only 25.00 per week for support--both parents say they can't afford 10.00 for boy scouts YET they buy beer weekly for themselves--SHAME on both parents! Most of the time in any situation it's the kids that suffer! "

" If a father gets behind in child support and loses his license, he can still take a bus or cab to work..should his bank account get frozen, he can still get a money order or pay cash--bottom line is: He wouldn't be in any of the more time consuming or costly events had he paid his support ON TIME LIKE HE SHOULD!!! If you have money for more children, car payments, cable, cell phone, activities, lottery, and beer then you have money for support! IF not then ZIP IT!!! "

" Hey, MaroonVanguard05----- The band might get more support if your director didn't put the kids on a island of their own and started playing at Football games etc like other schools in section 3. "

" I agree with whoever said Nice and Easy should not rebuild. Union Springs has potential as a picturesque lake village and tourist attraction, if only they could remove the remnants of that gas station, create a unified appearance in the shops across the street and get the car dealership to move out of the center of town. Then a nice restaurant/Inn could bring business to a village that looks depressed and rundown. Unfortunately, what will probably happen instead is the expansion of the car dealership. Either way, having the Nice and Easy back is not going boost the economy, it certainly wasn't helping before it burned. "

" Someone explain to me how, when the father gets behind in support, the court revoking his drivers license or freezing bank accounts helps anyone? Revoking his drivers license means he now can't get to work and earn money to pay support; freezing his bank accounts means if he does manage to work, he can't cash a check easily, or write checks to pay support. "

" What about the Auburn Maroon Vanguard who's practices started last week? Maybe the kids will see a reporter there sometime next week during their 8 HOUR BAND CAMP EACH DAY! Yeah, I didn't think so either "

justaround wrote on Aug 14, 2007 3:46 PM:

" I agree CM with some parents that do use the monies recieved for the kids on themselves. I see that myself. One woman takes the money every week and does landscaping, etc, you name it. Things like that are not a necessity to a child like clothes on their back, food on the table for them to eat, school supplies, sports activities, music lessons and such to keep them physically involved in activities. It is tough enough to be a single parent, I have done it and put two thru college to boot but not on one job. So when I see kids that don't benefit from the support of their dads it sure does make me wonder. "

cm wrote on Aug 14, 2007 2:16 PM:

" As I don't agree a teen deciding where a parents monies go-I do believe there are way too many dead-beat dads not paying support to help raise what they help to create! OR they feel they overpay--which unless you are super rich--odds are your payments are well BELOW the cost of raising a child!! I do however think the system should be revamped to insure monies are used for the children and not for the custodial parent to spend on his/her self... "
