Auburn's Pinckney Division lead over Mahoning Valley shrunk to just a single game on Sunday, as the Doubledays lost 4-2 at Brooklyn.
Auburn starter Kyle Walter put his team in position to win, allowing one run in five innings of work, but reliever Nate Melek surrendered three runs in the sixth inning.
The Doubledays mustered nine hits but couldn't manage any rallies against the Cyclones' bullpen. Reliever Tim Stronach earned the win while scattering three hits in three scoreless innings.
Darin Mastroianni and Brad Emaus had the RBIs for Auburn. J.P. Arencibia and Carlos Vasquez each went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
The Doubledays have the next three days off for the New York-Penn League All-Star break. Auburn (30-23) hosts Batavia Thursday.
