To Jerry Morgan Sr.: I am not sure from what authority you presume to judge any one firefighter to be “head and shoulders above” another. Both of the fine men that you noted are not with us today to take issue with your assessment of Chief Quill. If they were, I am quite sure they would not share your uninformed opinion.
I have known Chief Quill for more than 30 years. I am quite sure that they would share my opinion that anyone takes on the task of overseeing the Auburn Fire Department cannot do the job unless they are highly skilled and committed to the task. In my opinion Mike Quill did a fine job of managing a complicated and sometimes thankless job. He not only kept the standards high, he raised the bar. Did he make mistakes? Yes, but you only make mistakes if you are actually doing something. If you only sit around and do nothing, you will never make a mistake.
I have seen his commitment and energy to always move forward and improve the quality of service and preparedness of the Auburn Fire Department. It is without a doubt those qualities that those of us know him best admire. The voters of Auburn have an opportunity this year to vote for a man who is dedicated to his family and his friends, his faith in God and his service to our country in his beloved Marine Corps. This man served proudly the citizens of Auburn for more than 30 years as a firefighter, fire officer and chief. I ask you Mr. Morgan, is that not enough? Mike wants to give back to the city that he loves. I hope he gets the chance. I know he will do a great job.
