Quill has done honorable job for city of Auburn

To Jerry Morgan Sr.: I am not sure from what authority you presume to judge any one firefighter to be “head and shoulders above” another. Both of the fine men that you noted are not with us today to take issue with your assessment of Chief Quill. If they were, I am quite sure they would not share your uninformed opinion.
I have known Chief Quill for more than 30 years. I am quite sure that they would share my opinion that anyone takes on the task of overseeing the Auburn Fire Department cannot do the job unless they are highly skilled and committed to the task. In my opinion Mike Quill did a fine job of managing a complicated and sometimes thankless job. He not only kept the standards high, he raised the bar. Did he make mistakes? Yes, but you only make mistakes if you are actually doing something. If you only sit around and do nothing, you will never make a mistake.

I have seen his commitment and energy to always move forward and improve the quality of service and preparedness of the Auburn Fire Department. It is without a doubt those qualities that those of us know him best admire. The voters of Auburn have an opportunity this year to vote for a man who is dedicated to his family and his friends, his faith in God and his service to our country in his beloved Marine Corps. This man served proudly the citizens of Auburn for more than 30 years as a firefighter, fire officer and chief. I ask you Mr. Morgan, is that not enough? Mike wants to give back to the city that he loves. I hope he gets the chance. I know he will do a great job.

" To Lawrence H Roberts, I speak with the same authority that you speak with by calling my opinion uninformed. So let us begin to address your column. Sure, Mike Quill over seen the Fire Department, as did Chief Maywalt and Chief Calarco, however the big difference was neither Maywalt or Calarco ran the city into a deficit situation. They ran their department efficiently. This is something Mike Quill found impossible to do. He ran not only the fire department into the ground, but the whole dog gone city. He was the man responsible for the 15 man minimum, he is the man responsible for the $600,000 in over time. So with that Mr Roberts, who is uninformed? Everything I have written is a fact, a documented fact. Next you list his military career, whoop ti doo, I served my country for 8 years. I served the people of the state of New York for 25 years, as has countless others. ANd another thing, I served my community on an elected board, something Mike Quill has never done. He has no political experience what so ever. So please save the "I want to give back to my community" double talk. Anyone who knows what is going on at city hall knows that Mike Quill has a problem with Tim Lattimore, this is one of the reasons he quit. Anyone who knows anything about what is going on at city hall knows that Mike Quill was the absolute last choice for a mayoral candidate. In fact they even went to his campaign manager first, Bill Jacobs a Republican. So please Mr Roberts lets talk facts if you want to debate issues I will debate them with you or anyone else. I know what is going on, and I will not support a man who place this city in jepordy. The primary will prove me right, Mike Quill will get defeated soundly. "
