If people in Auburn complain about the temperature being in the 80s, I can't imagine what they would think if they lived in places that can get to 130. How about we just be grateful for the nice weather we get.
It seems like the gas prices in Auburn are at their worst. Who knows, we might be the city with the most expensive gas in the county, if not, New York itself.

I just do not understand why the public agrees to buy lottery tickets. The chance of winning is only 1 out of a million anyway so it doesn't really make sense.

If parents would curfew their children, the authorities wouldn't have to do it for them.

Just because an adult enjoys reading Harry Potter books does not mean I find them to be real but enjoyable! I just have to tell myself an idiot is an idiot because there is nothing wrong with enjoying reading a good book regardless if it is written by Mary Higgins Clark, Lisa Jackson, Danielle Steele or J.K. Rowling, etc.

Those who criticize the elderly should remember that what goes around, comes around.

Not all skateboarders are punks but many are, I 've seen it over the years at Auburn so don't keep nagging the police at City Hall. These kids should go out for football or soccer because I've never heard of a good skateboarder from Auburn.

" Re: Sports: Gotcha, Karl. As a former athlete myself, I understand: I've played team sports and individual sports, mainstream and unusual sports: In high school it was track, cross country, swimming, soccer and powderpuff football. In college soccer. Then later in life, volleyball, fencing and women's pro football. You can imagine some of the flak I've taken for that last one! But none of them made money, in endorsements or anything else. As for the weather: I enjoy snow and cold weather, though I am not overfond of driving in snow. (That's a matter of road conditions more than weather per se). I figure you can always put on more layers, but you can only take off so many -- in the heat, you reach a point where you could be buck naked and it wouldn't help cool you off. I'll take the cold and snow and enjoy it.... "

" I am sure that at one time or another you TWO have held up a line in your lifetime! We all have for one reason or another-some that may be our faults and some that just happen! If waiting in line is the worst thing that happens to me all day long-I am blessed! "oh happy day, oh happy day"!!!!! "

" Karl, I get so irritated when some idiot takes forever picking out his lottery tickets then moves to the side and scratches them and feels if he or she win they have the right to butt in and cash their winners even though I am standing there. The problem is that the lottery pays the store so little to sell lottery tickets they can't pay another clerk to handle extra customers. The store feels it must have the lottery to compete with other stores. "

" remember when we had to be in the house at night before dusk to take our baths, and watch the wonderful world of disney, with a bowl of ice cream with our parents on sunday nights.if parents took more time to spend with there kids and put there cell phones down they would know where there children are at night "

" well i dont know what all the hype is over lottery tickets but i know quite a few people who have won big on them, unfortunately i am not one of them yet.they are just like going to bingo, its a chance you take.oh is there something wrong with bingo too!if you have a problem with standing in line while someone buys lottery tickets i suggest a different store,or leave a little earlier.we save all of our small winning ones all year and had over 2000,oo dollars cashed them in and went to disney.thanks not so much for worrying about what others are spending there money on. "

" Not to fret, snow will arrive by halloween then you can whine about how you are freezing, how the snow plows have once again blocked in your driveway, how the city plows aren't out enough, and of course the huge gas & electric bills! In that time you will be extremely jealous of the "snowbirds" who are in Florida! "

" Who ever said the following is right on the $: "If parents would curfew their children, the authorities wouldn't have to do it for them." Not having a curfew is just dumb. Wouldn't you rather your kid be home and upset at you than out on the streets doing god knows what? Anything could happen and if the kid was home- it could have been prevented. "

" FarmersGal; I really didn't mean to impugn the great Football team, some of whom are my guitar students. I was just making the observation that some people tend to look down on skateboarders--some of whom are also my students--and seem to frown on their chosen hobby/sport in deference to "team sports". I think that skateboarders are a breed apart from "team players"; from what I've seen, they tend to be more individualistic and independent, and wouldn't necessarily thrive or fit within a "team" context. No slight intended to "team players" out there; but lets not look down on the "extreme sport"-ers. A lot of major "X-Games" stars making millions of dollars in endorsements right now are kids from small towns very similar to Auburn all over America! "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Aug 12, 2007 11:08 AM:

" Karl -- I agree about lottery tickets, but disagree about football players. Auburn just had an incredible state championship high school football team so if you haven't heard of good football players from Auburn, you must not have been reading the paper late last fall/early winter. Finally, on the subject of the heat (not from Karl): There are those among us who become physically ill in hot weather -- nausea, dizziness, hot and cold sweats, I have even passed out from heat over 90, but I start getting sick over 80. Even in Alaska, they get weather this warm. I live as far north as is practical, but if I complain about the heat, it's because it makes me sick. I couldn't live somewhere it got over 100 regularly -- I'd be just plain dead. I just hope the whole planet isn't headed for permanent or even a cycle of ever hotter average temperatures. So, have some tolerance if some of us can't take the heat. "

" Why doesn't everyone quit worrying about what others do with their money? Lottery helps pay taxes! And for those of you worried about those taking up your precious time... Get over yourselves! "

karl L wrote on Aug 12, 2007 10:05 AM:

" If anything, lottery tickets should be sold at special kiosks, like hot dog stands--NOT AT MINI MARKET GAS STATIONS WHERE THE PURCHASER HOLDS UP THE WHOLE LINE while "hemming and hawwing" over which brightly-colored rip-off they think is going to reward them with cigarette money! As if it really makes a difference what card they choose! Lottery players--if you must waste your money on this legalized thievery, do us all a favor--realize that other people have places to go and schedules to keep, and if there's a line of people behind you, get your buzz at some other time! "

" Lottery. I feel it's your money spend it as you will. I do get a kick out of the NY state advertising hook. "A dollar and a dream, hey you never know" and the claim of helping education. I pick one up once in a while just for fun, thats all. "
