Let the Bible explain what the Lord's work really is

In a recent letter, the Lord's/Christians' work was mentioned. For guidance in this area I look to the Bible for instruction. Jesus describes His work as: “To preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
To John the Baptist's disciples, Jesus replied: “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” This describes Jesus' work.

Jesus speaking directly to us says: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

And “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.”

Also “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

It seems to me these verses tell us the works of Jesus and what our works should be.

" Larry, did you say you're supposed to preach to "every creature"? Careful when you preach to the squirrels in the park. Squirrels eat nuts, you know. "

" I always felt that Jesus, and God, are invisible friends for the weak and frightened. "

" iowa, I'm dreadfully sorry to hear that you've been indoctrinated into Fear and Control, and can't live your life making moral and ethical decisions by thinking for yourself. I actually laughed out loud at your assertion that you "can't be a man if you don't believe in Jesus"! What a sad statement! Let me enlighten you about your "Jesus" obsession, "iowa"...You're not an ADULT, much less "a man", if you believe in Jesus in the manner of you "born-again's"! In fact, you're much more akin to a fawning, cloying child, unable or unwilling to confront the vicissitudes of life with your OWN Logic, Reason, Intellect and Empathy. If you possess these qualities, and refine their depth and applications through education and practice, you DON'T NEED "JESUS"!. Your "Jesus Obsession" is nothing more than a "confessing" of your inability to fully mature into a thinking, rational adult! As for me; I AM SAVED, iowa,--"saved" from the Lies, Control and Mind-Control of Religion AND "JESUS"--who was a myth, anyway (but of course you couldn't even BEGIN to contemplate THAT reality!) Let me ask you; do you pay as much attention to the OT as you do to the "re-write"--the NT? Have you or your wife sacrificed a pigeon to "atone" for your "uncleanliness" during your menstrual cycle? Do you believe in the Laws of Deuteronomy? About killing children for cursing their parents? IF YOU DON'T< YOU'RE A HYPOCRITE!!!! You, see, if it's ALL supposed to be "the Word of 'GOD'", then it's ALL supposed to be immutable and unchangeable and "perfect". But I'm well aware of how you "cafeteria Christians" pick and choose which "parts" of the Bible you find conveniently "do-able". and which ones you treat like the perverted uncle that the family doesn't quite talk about and doesn't invite to family gatherings. BTW, thanks for the "heads-up" about the 10 Commandments on I-90; I will contact my friends at "Americans United for the Separation of Church and State" and make them aware of the situation; if that's on public land or has used taxpayer dollars, we'll see what we can do about getting them torn down! ;) P.S. If you want to read the REAL story of how "Jesus" was invented by the Romans, read "Caesar's Messiah" by Joseph Atwill. Unquestionably the most important book of the last century, if not millenium! " As a born again christian I agree with Mr. Maguet 100% Jesus is the way and the light. It says in the 23 Pslam " I will lead you out of the shadow of the valley. The only thing I can say to you Karl I hope you have been saved. Here in the midwest we all belive in God and his son Jesus. In Ohio the have the ten commads on I90. They even havr stickers on their cars and trucks. You are not a man if you don't belive in Jesus. "

" Seriously, Folks, is this a joke?! Who the hell at the CITIZEN OK'd this letter???--this is just BLATANT PROSELYTIZATION. I thought you had some sort of policy in place about religious content of your letters with regards to pushing religious scripture and points-of-view? You would have done better to print a photo than this utter garbage! You know, this town is full of fundamentalist weirdo's who force their kids to stand on the corners with placards around their necks telling us all to repent; the last thing we need is the local paper helping these abusers!
