Transformer flares at Nucor Steel

A transformer was damaged at Nucor Steel, 25 Quarry Road, early Friday, but no injuries were reported. Auburn firefighters shut off the electricity and ventilated the building at about 3:41 a.m. The unit was back in service about an hour later, firefighters said.

Time Warner boosts Internet speed

Time Warner Cable has upgraded high speed Internet for Auburn and Skaneateles area users.

The upgrade to 10 megabits of dowload speed and 1 megabit for uploads is effective immediately with no customer action needed.

Auburnian charged in purse snatching

An 18-year-old Auburn man was charged with an early morning purse-snatching Saturday in which a woman suffered minor injuries.

The Auburn Police Department said Ryan Tisby, of 15 Fort St., Auburn, was arrested on State Street at 2:04 a.m. on Saturday morning after allegedly stealing a woman's handbag in the area around 161 Genesee St. at 12:13 a.m.

The victim told police that he had injured her during the robbery, complaining of swelling in the arm and a bruise.

Police charged Tisby with second-degree robbery.
