Benefit to help with transplant expenses
A benefit for Eileen (Alnutt) Bevier is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Club 34, on Route 34, Scipio. There will be live music, 50/50 raffles, door prizes and a silent auction. Cost for a chicken barbecue is $7.
Bevier was diagnosed with acute myelongenous leukemia. She will be traveling to Rochester for a bone marrow transplant, and the money raised from this benefit will go toward this trip and to help Eileen and her family with additional medical bills and other expenses during this difficult time.
Cato FD to host antique tractor pull
Cato Fire Department is hosting a pre-1960 Antique Tractor Pull Sunday, Aug. 19. Weigh-in starts at 9:30 a.m. and pulling begins at 11 a.m. The firehouse is located on Route 34, north of Cato. Food and beverages will be available.
New this year is a new class, pre-1980 open farm class. For more information, call Ron Dennison at 626-2416 or Larry Wallace at 626-6838.
Grove Gallery scene of antique appraisal
The Grove Gallery will hold an antique appraisal day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the gallery, on Route 90 in Aurora.
The gallery staff will offer informal verbal appraisals on paintings, old prints and posters, photographs, pottery and ceramics, glassware, bottles, furniture, jewelry, maps, postcards and other paper items, textiles, military items, toys, silver and other metal items, records, musical instruments and more.
An appraisal will be offered for $15 for up to three items. All proceeds to benefit the Peachtown Elementary School.

Center offers trip to Smoky Mountains
A trip to the Smoky Mountains and Biltmore Estate will be offered by the Boyle Center Oct. 7 through 13. This will be a seven-day and six-night trip, which includes lodging, 10 meals, a guided tour of the mountains, three shows: “The Miracle,” “Black Bear Jamboree” and “Back to the '50s,” a day at Biltmore Estate, Dollywood, Harrah's Casino and more.
Cost is $709 per person, and all age groups are welcome.
Deadline to register is Thursday, Aug. 30. To make a reservation, call Maggie Wells at 253-6178.
MGR extends run on Patsy Cline musical
For the second time, the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse has extended the run of its final production of the 2007 Season, “Always - Patsy Cline.” The bittersweet musical tribute to the late county superstar Patsy Cline has been extended to Sept. 29.
The show starts Sept. 12, and performances are Monday through Saturday evenings with select matinees. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and matinees at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $25 to $39, which include discounts for seniors (62+), students (with ID) and youth (under 18). Group Rates are available for parties of 15 or more. To reserve tickets, contact the Merry-Go-Round box office at 255-1785 or visit the Playhouse online at www.merry-go-round.com.
