Child Care Council to hold golf games
The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes will hold a golf tournament at Reese's Dairy Bar and Miniature Golf on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
The tournament will go from 3 to 7 p.m. at the golf course, located on Clark Street Road, Auburn. There will be a shotgun start at four different times: 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The cost will be $40 for a team of four.
The event will also feature musical entertainment provided by Charlie's CD's DJ, children's games and a dunking booth. Dunkees will include Jon Budelmann, candidate for Cayuga County District Attorney; Dan Emmi from the Auburn Police Department; Susan Muldoon, coordinator of Partnership for Results After School Programs; and David Roth, principal of Auburn High School.
Funds raised will be used for subsidies for parents who need assistance in obtaining child care where they work. Call 255-6994 for more information or to register.
Man charged with sex abuse of minor
A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of second-degree sex abuse.
A warrant was executed for the arrest of Michael J. Sherman, of 92 Fitch Ave Apt. L, Auburn, who allegedly touched and fondled an 11-year-old girl's breast last week, according to the Auburn Police Department. Police were not releasing further details.
County sheriff reports 743 calls
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office responded to 743 calls in July.
Deputies responded to 57 property damage auto accidents and 26 personal injury accidents while making 90 arrests. A half dozen people were cited with driving while intoxicated and 149 traffic tickets were issued.
The sheriff's offices served 182 civil papers.
Convention board has new member
The Cayuga County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors has a new member.
Jessica Cantu was elected to the board during its Aug. 7 meeting held at the Ward O'Hara Agricultural Museum in Owasco.
Cantu is the box office manager for the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. She also performs with the Actors' Speakeasy, a professional actors theater group dedicated to creating and sharing theater in the Finger Lakes region. Cantu also sits on the Board of Directors for the Absolute Dance Company, a not-for-profit that assists aspiring dancers to hone their skills in the art.
The CCCVB is dedicated to promoting, supporting, and increasing tourism, and in so doing stimulating economic growth and the quality of life for area residents.
Health groups host lunch, learn series
The Central New York Diabetes Prevention Partnership is teaming up with the Cayuga Community Health Network Inc. for a Lunch and Learn Series.
The Free event will teach people how to make positive choices for their health. They will happen at noon each Thursday at the Knights of Columbus. Organizers will serve lunch, and the talks will last about an hour.
The next session is by Christine Gutelius, MA, RD, CDN called “Learning to Eat Smart” on Thursday, Aug. 16. at the Knights of Columbus, 47 Market St., Auburn.
