Area students receive degrees
The following local students graduated from Ithaca College in May: Michael French, son of Richard and Deborah French of Auburn; Benjamin Scala, son of John and Charisse Scala of Auburn; Justin Viggiano, son of Joanna Viggiano of Auburn; Maria Fiorille, daughter of George and Sharon Fiorille; Laura Kapcha, daughter of John and Suzanne Kapcha of Union Springs.

The following local students graduated from SUNY Morrisville: Bryan Atwood of Locke, Angel Bowersox of Martville, Cassi DeVoe of Owasco, Daniel Foster of Cayuga, Jeffrey Geier of Skaneateles, Amy Gunnip of Weedsport, Alisha Hirsh of Port Byron, Sabrina Wellington of Weedsport, Jessica Wilkinson of Weedsport and Gregory Wood of Moravia.

Organization elects new officers

The Cayuga-Onondaga Association of Educational Office Personnel elected and installed a new slate of officers for the 2007-2008 school year during its annual meeting held recently. Sue DePauw and Debbie Fay, from Jordan-Elbridge Central School, will serve as co-presidents; Kathie Burke, from Port Byron Central School, will serve as vice-president; Bonnie Moore, from Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, will serve as treasurer; Linda Hitt, from Port Byron, will serve as secretary.

Wells employees honored for service

Wells College recognizes the following employees for their dedicated service.

€ 20 years: Pilar Greenwood of Ithaca; professor of Spanish; Kit Van Orman of Aurora, manager of human resources and business services; Christopher Bailey of Aurora, professor of chemistry; Nancy Gilbertson of Moravia, lecturer in music; Jeanne Goddard of Lansing, professor of dance; Yvonne “Bonnie” Rafferty of Moravia, custodian.

€ 25 years: Cathleen Patella of Aurora, director of financial aid.

€ 30 years: Sally Sievers of Ithaca, lecturer in math and computer science.

€ 35 years: Ken Kabelac of Aurora, head electrician.

Lecture to focus on climate change

Baltimore Woods in Marcellus is offering a lecture on Climate Change from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the John A. Weeks Interpretive Center, 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus. Elizabeth Thomas will talk about her experience with climate change and the drastic effects it's having on the Artic. Following the presentation, a complimentary showing of an “An Inconvenient Truth” will be presented; there is a fee for the lecture.

Bank donates bikes as reading prizes

Five Star Bank in Auburn is donating two bicycles as prizes for children who participate in Seymour Library's summer reading program, “Get a Clue @ Your Library.” The winners will be chosen by random drawing at the end of the summer.

Children may enter by filing out a reading log and return it by Friday, Aug. 31, to the library on Genesee Street. A bicycle will be awarded to a boy and girl. Smaller prizes, supplied by the library, will be awarded as well. Reading logs and contest rules are available in the children's room of the library.
