DEC to host tracking dog exam
The state Department of Environmental Conservation will offer a leashed tracking-dog handler exam. A written test will be given for people to get a license to use leashed tracking dogs to find wounded or injured big game animals.
The test is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 24, at designated testing sites.
People must register before Friday by visiting DEC's Web site, www.dec.ny.gov or calling (518) 402-8985.
The application fee is $25, and the license fee is $50 but lasts for five years.
Frontenac Fun Day to begin Sunday
The annual Frontenac Fun Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Frontenac Park in Union Springs.
The free event will include a softball tournament, antique boats and specialty autos on display, DJ music, food, crafts and many other family friendly programs on the shores of Cayuga Lake.
Weedsport dedicates pavilion to trustee
Weedsport village officials dedicated a new pavilion at Trolley Park to former Trustee Nellie A. Kinney in a ceremony Saturday.
The village also celebrated recent improvements including a restroom facility, paved walking paths, drainage, lighting and paved a parking lot.
Kinney, a retired teacher, worked on the park as a trustee and head of the Basin Club and Beautification Committee in the 1980s. She's also active in several other community organizations.
