To the person who has been in a cave for over five years, the gas station in Union Springs is Indian owned and is not subject to pay state and local taxes and is not regulated by state weights and measures or quality standards. They could lower their price from $2.84 to $2.45 per gallon and still make about the same profit as a typical gas station in Auburn.
Our troops are being murdered by IEDs. They don't even have a chance to fight back.

If you have a street maintenance problem in front of your house don't call anyone that works for the city.

I am impressed to say the least that Auburn is a good place to live because of all the sunny days, like today, and people's smiling faces. I hope Auburn continues to be a prosperous economic society.

Let's spend more billions on ruining Iraq while we let our own infrastructure crumble.

When the Haiti Island bridge first failed, the county/town took the cheapest fix. Now they are looking at a more costly repair to do it right.

" Let's move forward and stop using what past parties and presidents did as justification for future acts. Let's stop hearing about what Clinton, Papa Bush and Ronni Raygun did in the past. It was wrong then and is wrong today. Let's move forward and stop this chicken and the egg crap. If it is wrong stop doing it. If it's right then let's do it. "

" Some people think we should be GIVING to the THIRD world countries-food, clothing, shelter, medicines, money, so WHY NOT add AK-47's?? Afterall we bomb them and then give supplies --might as well go to war with them and give them weapons! "

" Hey Stiff - You're almost on target. However, I have a problem with a blanket assumption that gasoline should be treated as a supply and demand product. The price of electricity, natural gas, and fuel oil are regulated. I suggest that the price of gas should be regluated. Sure, I don't need to be driving to work personally (thankfully I can walk), but there are plenty here who need to drive to Syracuse and beyond to earn a meager living. Their pay doesn't go up to match the gas prices. -Jack Mayhoffer. "

" Rod, it's not an issue of oil companies building as few refineries as they want, it's that they've been hampered for some time because of environmental regulations, making it far less expensive to expand current refineries than build new ones. Most of our refineries are along the Gulf coast... we need to build new ones in different parts of the country, as events such as Hurricane Katrina showed us what can happen to our oil infrastructure. Technology has changed since the "old" refineries were built, they can be a lot cleaner than they used to be. Also, some of the comments lean towards making everyone think Bush is the only politician in on the oil business... where do you think the Gore family made all their money? Do Armand Hammer and Occidental ring a bell? "

" Amazingly and catastrophically the Pentagon lost 190,000 AK-47s somewhere in Iraq. Should'nt someone have been taking inventory to avoid the "boomerang" effect? "

" I thought that we lived in a capitalistic society. Therefore, gas companies can charge what they want, build as few refineries as they want. It is a corporation's goal to make profit! The government should not interfere as long as there is no provable collusion between the companies to artificially set the price. I bet most of you complaining drive gas hogs. I drive a hybrid. Gas price will go down when worldwide demand goes down or worldwide supply is increased. Remember macroeconomics? "

" Bobbo, I think the reason people mind more about Bush is because Clinton wasn't part of the Neocon Conspiracy to "own" and control every aspect of America. There's giving a gun to a squirrel hunter, and then there's giving a gun to a serial killer! This administration, if able to find a way, would very happily force a dictatorship if it could, and proceed to bankrupt the country to enrich themselves and all their corrupt constituents--exactly as the Communists did, and do, in whatever country they exist in. In fact, you and others on this site are so hung up on "socialist" and "commie" nonsense, that I'm surprised you don't see the actual, de facto similarities between them and they. "

Bobbo wrote on Aug 6, 2007 4:31 PM:

" Why didn't people mind when Clinton Admin used the ECHELON Program to spy on Americans even when we weren't at war (probably 'cause the media never reported it)? Why did the Dems complain so much about the current spy program, but are now working with Repubs to expand it? Maybe they know that it is one of our best defenses against terrorism, but don't want the public to know the same. For all the Bush haters, you surely hate Clinton as well, for his spy programs and firings of US attorneys (Bush-6, Clinton-98). "

" Bluefin: OF COURSE the government doesnt care how much we are paying for gas, you have an oil tycoon running the white house laughing all the way to the bank, he and his partner in crime dont have much longer to rip off the citizens of the US so they have to get as much as they can, while they can! And its ABSURD not Obsured. "

" Indians ,Indians,There not the problem here like bluefin said gas companys are reporting billions in profits and our government does nothing about it,like putting a cap on there profits . Bush is in on this whole mess with the gas and doesnt care,Bushes own oil, and are we hearing about there profits so why would our president care about our rising gas prices? There making a fortune off us ,and he calls himself a American, yea right "

" "Obsured?" Maybe you meant "insured" -- as in "guaranteed?" Reminds me of George Thorogood's landlady who says "That don't befront me long as I get my money next Friday!" (At least, that's what she says in the live version). Thanks for the chuckle. "

" If you do buy gas at an Indian gas station make sure you look for the inspection sticker on the pump. I normally try to avoid them but a few years ago I was driving through the Salamanca area and needed to buy gas, so I stopped at the Indian gas station. The gas was cheaper.....but I somehow managed to get 17 gallons into a 15 gallon gas tank. "

bluefin wrote on Aug 6, 2007 12:36 PM:

" Indian or not, we shouldn't be paying the price we are paying now for gas. It's obsured that gas companies are declaring the biggest profits ever. Not revenue, but profits! We should get out of Iraq and fight for cheaper oil. The government doesn't care about us though. If they did, something would have been done by now. "

justaround wrote on Aug 6, 2007 12:32 PM:

" The Indian's gas station isn't regulated by government but they do allow them to come in and verify that it is pumping in accordance with the weights and measures. I remember last year or so they did allow that as well to assure people they were in compliance with state weights and measure. I do agree however that patronizing them until this is all settled is only cutting the throats of others and hurts the local tax base. "
