No matter.
Auburn used four home runs to battle back from two six-run deficits to topple State College 12-10 in a game at Falcon Park on Saturday.
Shawn Scobee, who already had two home runs this week, deposited two more long balls over the fences at Falcon Park. Joining him in the home run department was Ben Zeskind and Victory Santana. All three now have five homers on the year.
Doubledays starter Kyle Walter last just 1-3 of an inning, allowing six earned runs. But after Walter, Patrick McGuigan, Javier Nieves and Joe Wice allowed three runs, none of them earned, and held the hot-hitting Spikes to just four runs in the final 8 2-3 innings.
After posting three runs in the third inning to cut their deficit to three runs, State College scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth to bolster its advantage to 10-4.
But Auburn answered back with three homers in three innings and RBI doubles from Santana and J.P. Arencibia to take a 12-10 lead in the seventh.
The Doubledays, whose offense has been hit-or-miss for much of the season, pounded out 16 total hits. Zeskind led the way, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs.
Santana had three hits and drove in four, Scobee had two hits and four RBIs and Wes Stone went 2-for-4.
State College answered with another unearned run in the ninth inning but Wice held on to pick up his fourth win of the season. He struck out five in three innings of work.
