Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.
This week, we spotlight Buddy from the Finger Lakes SPCA.
Q. Who is your best friend?
A. The people here are being very nice to me. They are even going to make a special kennel to accommodate my big size. So, they are my best friends at the moment.
Q. Do you know any special tricks?
A. Yes. I can disappear faster than any other dog I know.
Q. Do you get along with other animals?
A. Oh yes. I have lived with other dogs, and I get along with cats. Most of all, I love people - big and small.
Q. How often do you like to be groomed?
A. I like to be brushed every day with a bath once in a while and nails clipped when needed.
Q. What has been your worst experience
A. My worst experience keeps happening over and over. I keep running into the dog catcher every time I make my great escape!
Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?
A. You know, I really do need to stay out of trouble and not run away any more. So the first thing I will do is go to the yard and try to jump the fence. If I can't make it - I'll know I'm home to stay.
Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?
A. Please do whatever is necessary to keep your pets safe. If that means a very tall fence, then do it! Also, keep tags on your dogs at all times, and if they are not microchipped, do that too - it will help get your dog home to you sooner.
Buddy
Breed: Great Dane and Lab mix
Age: About 3-4 years old
Comments from the SPCA: Buddy came to the shelter via the Animal Control officer. He's what we call a “frequent flyer” - he's been here many times before - but he loves to run, play and have fun. So he's kind of hard to keep down on the farm so to speak.
Buddy, true to his breed(s), is a very big boy. The Great Dane in him rules when it comes to size. He is lovable and a great family companion. He's also very smart and a quick learner, so a stint for him and his new guardians with a trainer is suggested.
Buddy is looking for a family that will take the time to commit to rigorous exercise so that he can work off some of the pent up exuberance in his large frame. He is also looking for a home with a fairly high fence and a cable run. Buddy needs more than adequate provisions for confinement because he does love to run.
Buddy is negative for heartworm, is up to date on vaccinations, has been wormed and flea treated and has been neutered. The adoption donation for Buddy is $92.50, which includes up to date vaccinations, testing and treatments, neutering and licensing. A mandatory microchipping fee is also required.
