Great Race holding volunteers meeting
There will be a Great Race volunteers meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 8, at the Auburn YMCA.

Everyone is welcome.

Freshman football sign-ups begin soon

Sign-ups for Auburn Freshman Football will be on Aug. 14 and 16 at East Middle/Holland Stadium.

Students must have a physical to play.

Practice begins Aug. 27.

Home run derby to benefit Little League

There will be a home run derby from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 at Emerson Park. The cost is $10 per 10 at-bats for each child.

There will be several divisions for boys and girls age 7 to 13. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to each division winner.

All proceeds benefit Central New York Little League All-Stars. Please make checks payable to CNY Major League All Stars. Payment will be collected the day of the event.

Fishing tournament to be held Saturday

The Fishing for Dollars annual tournament will take place Aug. 4 at Onondaga Lake.

The tournament will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost of entry is $25 for adults and $10 for children under 15.

Tickets may be purchased at any area P&C Food Market, Onondaga Lake Park Office, Mickey's Bait Shop or The Results Group Office in Syracuse.

There is $5,000 in cash prizes for the five heaviest bass in both the men's and women's categories.

There is also a search for a $25,000 tagged bass, or any of the other 135 tagged bass worth between $100 and $5000.

Rec softball rosters now available

The Auburn Recreation Department is announcing that rosters are now available in the Recreation Department office located at the Public Works Garage, 358 Genesee St., Auburn, for the 2007 co-ed softball program.

All completed rosters and fees must be submitted prior to the close of business on Friday, Aug. 17 at the Recreation Department.

Cheerleading camps begin Aug. 7

CNY Cheer Company, Inc. is conducting cheerleading camps for all area cheerleaders.

One-day sessions for ages 8-and-up run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 and Aug. 22.

A special session for youth football/Pop Warner cheerleaders will be held n Aug. 21.

Participants need to register at least one week in advance to each session. Registration is available at www.cnycheer.com, www.cnystorm.com or by calling 866-0225.

Coaches needed for Pop Warner football

Auburn Indians Pop Warner is seeking qualified head football coaches for the non-competitive instructional Flag level, ages 5 and 6.
