In a raid organized and conducted by United States Secret Service officer Richard Taylor, 15 Chinese slave girls were captured and taken to the Alemeda county jail. Eight of them claimed to be natives of the United States.

AUBURN - A long-anticipated tool to crack down on building code violators is now a reality. New regulations in effect today will have the city's code enforcement department post signs in front of run down property, City Manager Jeff Towery said at Thursday's City Council meeting. Though the rules take effect today, the signs will not be popping up overnight. “We will not have signs up until they (the property owners) meet requirements to put signs in place,” Towery said.

AUBURN - Motorists will have to maneuver through sections of a torn-up Genesee Street for more than two years as two large road reconstruction projects are completed. The city plans to complete some $10 million worth of renovations to both East Genesee Street and Genesee Street over the next few years.
