AUBURN - Giuseppe's scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat ACFU 6-4 in opening game of the Auburn Babe Ruth League playoffs on Tuesday.
Tim Daniels' hit plated the go-ahead run and Justin Davis' groundout added some insurance. Steve Komanecky added two doubles and Andrew Sanders had two hits. Zach Ladouce, Daniels and Davis each had hits. Komanecky and Sanders were on the mound.
ACFU had rallied with a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie it. Chris Anderson had a pair of doubles and Chris Catino had two hits. Brendon Bozek, Trevor Doan and Liam Grazsko each had hits. Catino, Anderson and Bozek pitched.
Softball
The Auburn Xtreme 14-and-under softball team remained unbeaten with 26-4 and 13-6 wins over East Syracuse-Minoa Tuesday. In the opener, Haley Jordan had three hits (double) and three RBI. Lasheena Love (triple, two RBI) and Leah Netti each had two hits.
Jenna Hensel (three RBI), Casey Hicks (two RBI) and Meg Feocco (two RBI) had a hit each.
Erin Gordon allowed four hits and struck out eight to get the win.
Erin Iaia, Gordon and Feocco each had two hits in the second game. Netti, Jordan (double), Lawler and Love each had RBI hits. Ali VanGiesen and Feocco were on the mound. VanGiesen and Liz Westburgh paced the defense for the 7-0-1 Xtreme.
The Xtreme 16-and-under team lost 8-7 to the Rebels and 10-7 to Central Square. Jamie Bruno had a pair of triples and three RBIs. Liz Daniels, Sam Bruno and Brittany Cunningham each had hits.
Against Central Square, Daniels had three hits and Jen VanArsdale each had two hits. Jamie Bruno, Sam Bruno and Chelsea Sherman each had a hit.
The 7-0 Xtreme 18-and-under team was rained out.
Sandlot
Byrne Dairy topped Mark's Pizzeria 9-7 as John Canizzo had a two-RBI triple. Mike Carbonaro and CJ Carr each were praised for defense and Cory Fredette was praised for pitching. For Mark's, Morgan Malone homered and singled, Jimmy Feocco had two hits (triple, three RBIs) and Stephen Cristafulli had three hits and two RBIs. Megan Kessel was praised for pitching.
Auburn Pony League playoffs
Casler Masonry topped the Elks 9-3 as specific offensive information for both teams was not reported.
