Why all the business being conducted in private?

Wednesday, August 1, 2007 11:28 AM EDT

The Town Board of Cato has a problem letting Cato taxpayers and voters know what is going on in the town of Cato.
A special meeting was advertised in several newspapers for Thursday, July 26, 2007, at 5 p.m. regarding fire and ambulance contracts for next year.

The meeting was called to order at 5:10 p.m. and immediately a motion was made to go into executive session leaving the people attending the meeting to just sit.

Around 7 p.m. the board came out and a motion was made to adjourn.

A lot of time, and money was spent to hear nothing.

Why is everything a secret?

This is not the first time this has happened! Much time is spent just waiting while the Cato board does business behind closed doors.

Are these meetings public or private?

The previous Cato Town Supervisor went into executive session about three times in 28 years.

Many of us want to know what are all the secrets?

" Ms. Donnelly-very nicely put! Atleast the Town of Cato advertises their special meetings. If the townspeople really are not happy, they should contact the highers above and complain. The Town of Ira, however, does not advertise and if they do, what paper do they post their meetings in? Seems the two towns are in conspiracy together. They think they can just create and pass laws without any of the citizen's feelings/concerns. Get this, the Town of Ira, passed a law that anyone replacing a door, window, deck, etc. need to get a permit. True, the permit is free, but the only reason they wanted the permit, is so they can increase your taxes. The Town of Cato and Ira need to realize, the townspeople are the one's that voted them in. We can easily vote them out!! "

" Not to fret Rosemary--I have learned that NOTHING stays behind closed doors--at one time or another it SEEPS out! However to leave the public sitting for 2hrs is down right rude and maybe these officials need to be taught a lesson on the next voting session! "
