Cancer support group to meet
WeCAre, a cancer support group in Skaneateles, will hold a meeting from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, 97 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles (across the street from St. James Episcopal Church). The meetings will be held in the Connor room, and parking is available in the church parking lot.

Lunch and Learn focuses on diabetes

The Cayuga Community Health Network in cooperation with the CNY Diabetes Prevention Partnership will offer a six-part Lunch and Learn Series: “Making Positive Choices for Your Health” to downtown Auburn businesses beginning Aug. 2 for six consecutive Thursdays. The series ends Sept. 6.

The program is intended to raise the awareness among employees of downtown Auburn about the risks of Diabetes Type II. The following is a list of the sessions and the presenters:

€ Aug. 2 - “Getting Real with Your Risk,” by Nita Stormann, MS, FNP, BC-APRN

€ Aug. 9 - “Taking Steps to Get Moving, Part I,” by Marie Sadusky, MHE

€ Aug. 16 - “Learning to Eat Smart, Part I,” by Christine Gutelius, MA, RD, CDN

€ Aug. 23 - “Taking Steps to Get Moving, Part II,” by Marie Sadusky, MHE, and “Learning to Eat Smart, Part II,” by Christine Gutelius, MA, RD, CDN

€ Aug. 30 - “Eat Well Play Safe,” by Joe Muschock, and “Taking Steps to Get Moving,” by Marie Sadusky, MHE

€ Sept. 6 - “Proactive Health,” by Val White, BSE, MSE, and “One Touch Changes Everything,” by Denise M. Thurston, of LifeScan

The programs will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 47 Market St., Auburn. The program is free of charge, and lunch is provided at each session. Registration is limited.

Red Cross to offer babysitter course

The Cayuga County Red Cross will offer Babysitter's Training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the chapter office, 11 State St., Auburn. This is the final scheduled training before students return to school.

The Babysitter#'s Training is open to students age 11-15; youth must be age 11 years at time of registration. Students will learn how to provide safe and responsible care for children, use mannequins for hands-on life saving skills experience, develop leadership and professional skills, learn to earn and save money and gain first aid knowledge.

All Red Cross training is taught by qualified American Red Cross instructors. The cost for Babysitter's Training is $40 per student and includes lunch, a training manual and an American Red Cross certification.

Preregistration by Wednesday, Aug. 1, is required for this training. To register, call the Cayuga County Red Cross at 252-9596.
