Gleason pitches S-K Post to victory
Ryan Gleason threw a complete game, allowing only one hit while striking out seven as S-K Post of Auburn defeated Rochester's Rayson Miller 4-1 in the third round of the District VII American Legion Playoffs on Sunday in Newark.

Trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning, Mike Assmann's double drove home two runs to give Auburn the lead. Eric Miller and Gleason added run-scoring singles in the seventh.

J.D. LaRue, Matt Wild, Zach Prentice and C.J. Shaw collected hits for Auburn.

Shaw and Wild led the defense with two diving catches to preserve the win.

Auburn moves on to the finals of the winner's bracket to face Braemen of Rochester at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Newark.

Arsenal girls play in Salt City tourney

The Auburn Arsenal Girls Under-12 soccer team participated in the 22nd annual Salt City Soccer Tournament in Liverpool over the weekend.

The team competed against squads from Syracuse, Watertown and Rochester.

Allysa Bennet and Alayna Slayton each scored one goal for Auburn.

Taylor Enge and Brigid Sabine played well defensively while Connor Clifford and Brooke Whitman combined for solid performances in goal.

Youth soccer league starts practice soon

The Southern Cayuga Sports Conference Youth Soccer League begins practice the second week in August and games begin the first Saturday after Labor Day.

Children grades kindergarten through sixth from all local school districts are eligible to participate. Sixth graders must be 12 or under before Nov. 1.

The final sign-up is on Aug. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cream at the Top in King Ferry.

The cost is $30 for one child, $55 for two, $75 for three and $100 for four.

Bobby Hoey golf tourney is Aug. 8

The 44th annual Bobby Hoey Golf Tournament will be held at 9 a.m. on Aug. 8 at Dutch Hollow Country Club.

Entry fee is $10 and includes a lunch.

Countdown to Great Race XXX: 13 days

The 30th annual Great Race will take place at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 12, at Emerson Park in Auburn.

The race is a team triathlon consisting of two-, three-, and four-person relay teams.

Participants can run, bike, canoe or kayak. The event is open to all ages. Applications are now available at the Auburn YMCA.

Touch football rosters are available

Rosters for the upcoming touch football season are available at Taylor's Tavern on Washington St. in Auburn.

The entry fee is $250 per team and the deadline to sign up is Aug. 12.

The league is also in need of officials.

The season is set to begin Aug. 26.
