World has no respect for life

However much we might disagree with President Bush on a wide variety of issues, one thing remains clear: he is a president who stands firmly in support of the sanctity of human life.
Both houses of Congress recently passed legislation which extends government funding of embryonic stem cell research and limits its restrictions. Bush vetoed the bill, making it clear that he would continue to do so for the remainder of his administration. Embryonic stem cell research is when a pre-born baby is killed and used for experiments, all in the name of medical progress.

This truth is often too harsh on our sensitive little American ears so we change the language to make it sound more, well, comfortable. “Baby” we change to “embryo,” “murder” becomes “medical procedure,” “mutilating experiments” is changed to “research.”

Keep in mind that all the medical breakthroughs in stem cell research have involved adult stem cells. As the president stated, this does not involve the creation, harm, or destruction of human life. But the obvious question is: If there has never been a single instance of anyone ever being helped in any way by embryonic stem cell research, why this mad rush by so many to do it?

Raising children involves concepts that are hateful in today's culture. Responsibility, sacrifice, putting others above oneself. These are utterly incompatible with today's gods of pleasure, distraction, entertainment and self-indulgence. In other words, if we can kill the babies then nothing else really matters; so anything goes. We can live any way we wish, no restrictions, no boundaries, no morals.

And the cheapening of human life is a gift we've handed down to our youngsters. A generation ago if two boys had a disagreement they might end up in a minor tussle. Today if somebody violates some warped idea of “respect” somebody ends up dead.

Human life means nothing. We throw it away like a piece of trash. This is the fruit of a culture of death. We need to go full steam ahead on adult stem cell research to help those who suffer so terribly from crippling diseases. But never should we sacrifice our children on the altar of selfishness. A recent movie tells of the ancient Mayan culture which sacrificed massive numbers of men, women and children to their pagan gods. Human life was cheap and the blood flowed from their high places of worship. Is 21st century America very much different?

" Ya know the more I read the citizen says-the more I think most of Auburn is on crack! Should you ever get a judge willing to give the MAX on ALL drug charges then most of you would be gone from the city and the hopefulls left could rebuild a better town! I have no idea what entertainment KARl is in but nothing I would pay to see or hear.I have yet to read anything of positive out of his words. I see only that he sits and writes does anyone have pics of him doing actual work that benefits Auburn?? Our president is NOT killing our soldiers--Terrorist groups are--I believe this is not a war for profit since its costing us so much money, but money I would invest in for the future of my children. We may never know the true scope of Mr.Bush's actions on this subject but our military VOLUNTEERED for their jobs-no one forced them to join. My husband proudly served for 10 years-would I worry when he was gone--of course-but it was his job and he walked tall and proud and never did they force him in any way to re-up when it came time. Did we benefit as a family from it--of course we did--travel, money for housing, extra for hazard pay, and awesome medical and dental benefits including the cheapest life insurance! As in any job -there are pros and there are cons. There are benefits and there are hazards. My only regrets on this war is that our president should tell NATO kiss our butts and we fight like those scums fight--down and dirty! One bomb one shot ALL DONE! As for this stem-cell research--I am not sure I agree with using a whole babies body for a cure of this disease. I like Michael j Fox but I am not totally convinced this is the only way to cure him and others..I would like to hear more but as I have found out with my daughters weekly fevers--6 doctors opinions still are all different, so we may never get the REAL answer --we only get the opinions and thats not enough to get me to vote yes. I recently visited Auburn and let me tell you I was appalled. I was ashamed to show of my little hometown to my future daughter-in-law. The town as a whole reminded me of a ghetto I once was lost in in Maryland. When I say ghetto I mean whites too. The streets were trashed, the pot holes were everywhere, the beautiful well kept homes years ago were broken down slums, I was worried for our safety just mailing a letter from the post office, the mall has nothing to offer to shoppers, downtown wasnt worth the time parking for, at night kids roamed the streets looking for trouble, and NEVER did I see the trashmen look thru or even glance at a clear bag but they did leave most of the trashcans rolling into the streets! Visitors would get a huge disappointment-coming into the city from Lake Ave everything looks beautiful, driving down swift st. very nice-but once you pass downtown heading north and you are NOT on the arterial the slums are everywhere. May I suggest that you citizens start cleaning up--starting with your kids--like where are they now? then with your house-would your mama be proud to visit you? then your neighborhood --are you people really glad to say I live on ?? street?? then your town-should Mr Bush show up for a visit would he really listen to you when you cant even clean up your own hometown? I dont expect my next visit to be much different than the last since most of you can even get together and clean up 1 house let alone a whole town..and with that I dont see better jobs coming to the area, I dont forsee kids staying with a future there unless they join the druggies--which brings up another incident I witnessed--as I sat and visited with a friend I watched several drug deals in front of the neighbors driveway going on for 2 hours! And the only place I saw a police car was when I went by the station..Shame on you good people for not putting a stop to these happenings in YOUR town. Shame on you for letting the bad over rule the good-instead of sitting on the computer walk out your door and do something for the good of yourself, your kids, and your neighbor, and your city. "

" Many thanks Veronica for the nod...I have been offered a column in the Citizen on several different occasions, but because I am in the Entertainment Industry, my employer has balked at the Citizen's requirement to have a photo placed at the top of the column. It has to do with rights and licensing of my image; stupid legal stuff...sigh! But thanks again! "

" Dan, I apologize. I was in a foul mood this morning and did not read your note properly. I thought YOU had taken the vacation from the looney left not Judy. So as you read it again, just exchange the name Dan with Judy. It still works! :-) "

" Dan W, Let's look at the right and see how they have turned this country into a dictatorship. Oh yes, and the billions and billions of dollars that King George squandered for this war based on lies. How are your children going to pay for this war? I'm sorry, I meant to say grandchildren. "

Dan W wrote on Jul 27, 2007 11:35 PM:

" I would like to nominate Karl L to replace Judy as the Tuesday columnist. The man has intelligence and common sense, two very important qualities that Judy lacks. Each week Judy shows us just how ignorant and uneducated she is and I'm not sure if what she writes are truly her own thoughts. It's hard to believe that in the year 2007, a woman can still think the way she does. I just can't understand how a person can go through life with such blinders and not question or debate certain ideas or authority. So, back to my original request, let's nominate Karl or another, if you'd like and put some challenging intelligent conversation back into the Citizen newspaper. "

" I remember years ago, when I still lived in Auburn, that the whole town banded together to force the neo nazi's out of town. How is Ducayne any different? Her ignorant and hate filled blabber fills the pages and the Citizen signs its name to it each time. I don't care if its in the opinion section. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion, but its the papers responsibilty and duty to verify the accuracy of its contributors. This woman consistently bends the truth, makes up facts and just plain divides everyone. I am so proud to see people standing up to the ignorance of these right wing nuts. I think its time to once again unite and chase this venomous and vile creton out and hopefully the Citizen will see that publishing someone's opinion is one thing, but publishing hate puts them in a whole different, very embarassing and pathetic bracket. The NY times or the Washintong Post, the Citizen is NOT. "

" I still refuse to pay any money for a copy of The Citizen as long as Judy Ducayne is in print. And the movie you're referring to, Apocalypto, is NOT an accurate portrayal of the Mayans. All the real writers I know know not to believe everything they see in the movies. To that end, the embryos you're calling babies are little more than clumps of cells similar to those miscarried and never known or missed by the women who have them. Are you going to start a crusade to raid the garbages of womens' public restrooms in order to save those babies, for the sanctity of their human life? I wouldn't be surprised. "

" Her's the letter I penned to the Citizen, in case they won't print it. It needs to be said!... Dear Citizen, “However we might disagree with President Bush…he is a president who stands firmly in support of human life” These incredible, unbelievable words begin Judy Ducayne’s latest column; written, apparently, oblivious to the brobdignagian irony contained in such a ludicrous delusion. Let’s look at the facts: In his four years as governor of Texas, Bush executed 131 people on death row, with a callousness that is shockingly cold-blooded. Bush defended his record thusly: “We’ve adequately answered innocent or guilt” he boasted, adding that all defendants “had full access to a fair trial” Yet in a third of these cases, the accused were represented by lawyers who were subsequently disbarred or sanctioned. In 29 cases, psychiatrists testified without having examined the defendant—a professionally unethical act. Lawyers have been found to be drunk, on cocaine, or even asleep. . Since 1976, for every seven executions, one other death row inmate has been proven innocent. Bush took as little as 15 minutes to review final pleas in a state notorious for its sloppy, incompetent prosecutions. Man, that’s real caring! Forget the fine young Americans dying daily, or the estimated 128,000-plus innocent Iraqi civilians killed in Bush’s war-for-profit. Overlook the thousand dying every day from diseases that might’ve been cured but for Bush’s partisan vetoes. Forget those mothers and newborns dying in 3rd-world countries for want of aid monies denied to family planning clinics who’ve refused to stoop to the dangerous fantasy of teaching “abstinence” to tribal peoples. Ducayne’s manic obsession with her own unique interpretation of “life” utterly blinds her to this reality. Like the pagan priests sacrificing other humans in exchange for favor from their gods, Bush has sacrificed thousands of lives on the altar of partisan pandering for the Conservative vote. And Ducayne plays the cheerleader. How dare she lecture us on “the cheapening of human life”! "

" It's interesting, the citizen will edit the too cents page if they feel that the readers make statements that are threatening, profane or crude. However, Judy continues to have a column every week where she is consistently Profane, crude and hateful. She is, as far as I'm concerned someone who spews hatred and intolerence of every kind week in and out, and uses Religion to justify or hide behind these comments. It is a shame to see someone who claims to have found God seem SO unhappy. "

" Hey Judy, how can I get a job as a columnist with the Citizen?? It’s obviously not hard and you don’t have to know what you’re talking about or be intelligent at all by reading your columns. If you truly believe the garbage you write, I feel very sorry for you, however I can take some comfort in the old saying “Ignorance is bliss”, you are the most blissful person I’ve ever read! (maybe you should switch to the comics section) "

" You have to be the most ignorant person short of Ann Counter. Did you know that the embryos used comprise about 6 cells? Certainly less than a dozen cells. I am not wishing Parkinson's on you, or MS, but if your GOD should so affict you, I would like to see your column then. By the way, how was your vacation? "
