Army promotes Connell to major
Captain Bernard J. Connell, son of Margery Klock Connell of Scipio Center and the late Allan E. Connell was promoted to the rank of major in the Army on July 11.
Major Connell is on active duty as an associate professor of Military Sciences at Rose Halman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
He is a 1994 graduate of Southern Cayuga Central School.
Palmieri to serve as ARC president
Seneca Cayuga ARCs annual dinner meeting was held recently at the Auburn Holiday Inn. Election of directors and officers was the first order of business. Rose Palmieri was elected to a fifth one-year term as president, with John E. Becker II as vice president, Peter Crego as treasurer and Calvin Gee as secretary.
Elected to two-year terms as directors were: Thomas Ackerley, Peter Crego, Rose Palmieri, Robert Herman, Peter Koon. Those completing the second year of their two-year term are John E. Becker II, Carlo Frappolli, Calvin Gee, Rob Gould.
Sharon Clink and William Parker, outgoing members, were honored for their service on the board.
Three individuals who receive agency services were recognized as “Shining Stars” for personal successes. They were Amanda Burkart, Michael Grant and Michelle Musso.
Chamber to exhibit Boyle Center art
Artwork by the Boyle Center Art Group will be on display at the Cayuga Chamber of Commerce, 36 South St., Auburn, during the month of August. The exhibit can be seen 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The art group started in the early 1990s. The teachers have included Lucille Matterson, Anita Fuller, Doris Stevens, Jane Lynn and Betty Komarisky. Now the group teaches one another, with Jane Lynn, acting as coordinator.
Those displaying their work are: Sherry Miller, Jim Ryan, Mike Savage, Alice Sprout, Betty Komarisky, Mary-Jane Sanders, Karen Bove, Dick Hamilton, Cheryl Hunter, Roseann Spinelli, Jane Lynn, Lia Bates, Pat King, Marge Sperlazza, Flora Bell and June Coats

Museum book club to meet Thursday
The Cayuga Museum's History Book Club will discuss “The Ghost Soldiers: The Epic Account of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission” by Hampton Sides at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2., at the Cayuga Museum, Genesee Street, Auburn.
Johnson - Johnson exhibit opens Friday
The opening reception of “Johnson - Johnson: New Work” will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Grove Gallery, 347 Main St., Aurora.
The exhibition displays new paintings by Melissa Roberts Johnson and features several furniture pieces by Tim Johnson. The show is free and open to the public and continues through Aug. 24.
Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday. To learn more, contact Anna Baxter at 720-3964.
