One of the sorrel horses belonging to Hose No. 3 on Clark Street dropped dead in its stall at 11 a.m. this morning. Yesterday the equine suffered an attack of colic.

Two kidnapped British sergeants were hanged in Jewish reprisals. Extensive search by soldiers disclosed no trace of bodies.

Camp Columbus is no longer for sale. The Comprehensive Technology Center took the Owasco Lake summer camp property for the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled off the market. CTC's parent organization has assumed day-to-day control over the agency, installing John Kemmer, as executive director. The board fired Anthony Terranova, its longtime executive director earlier this month amid concerns about the agency's financial condition.

July 30, 2002

Union workers at Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center may go on strike in a dispute over wages. Officials of Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union that represents the workers will meet to set a date for a strike vote. The rank-and-file gave the union the OK to authorize a strike two weeks ago, but must vote again to decide to actually walk off the job.
