Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.
This week, we spotlight Mac from the Finger Lakes SPCA.
Q. Who is your best friend?
A. Right now my best friends are the shelter staff. I am glad to be here where I know I am safe and will be looked after.
Q. Do you get along with other animals?
A. Unfortunately I do not. I wish I did, but I don't think that will change.
Q. Who do you prefer, adults or children?
A. I really love children; adults are OK too.
Q. How often do you like to be groomed?
A. Oh, I think once a week a good brushing would be fine. I don't particularly like having my nails done though.
Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?
A. I will want to be on my best behavior and stay there forever so I don't have to leave my home again.
Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?
A. Yes. Please take the advice of the shelter staff and make sure you get at least basic obedience training, or more if recommended by your trainer, for your new companion. It might make the difference between keeping your pet in the home or having to re-home it.
Mac
Breed: Pitbull mix
Age: About 2 years old
Comments from the SPCA: Mac came to the shelter via the Skaneateles Animal Control officer. He is an extraordinarily beautiful dog and a very friendly dog once he gets to know you.
Mac has recently spent some time in a home environment, and we know from that experience that Mac needs to be the “only child.” So, a future home must not have other dogs or cats.
Mac is looking for a family that will take the time for in-depth obedience training and continue the concepts learned in that training. He also requires lots of exercise and a guardian or family that will commit to frequent and safe walks. A fenced in yard is also recommended. A home visit is required for anyone interested in adopting Mac.
Mac is negative for heartworms, is up to date on vaccinations, has been wormed and flea treated and has been neutered. The adoption donation for Mac is $92.50, which includes testing and treatments, neutering and licensing. A mandatory microchipping fee will also be required.
Anyone interested in visiting with Mac, may call the FLSPCA-CNY at 253-5841.
