For the fifth time this season, the Auburn Doubledays hit two home runs in a game. Unfortunately though, they doubled their season high in errors and fell to Tri-City 10-5 on Wednesday.
Homers from Carlos Vasquez and Manny Rodriguez couldn't save the Doubledays, who committed three of six total errors in the fifth inning, when the ValleyCats racked up six runs. Luis Sanchez had two miscues at shortstop, and Darin Mastroianni, Vasquez, Rodriguez and Ben Zeskind each had another.
Vasquez was the only Doubledays hitter to get multiple hits, with two, while Rodriguez's two-run homer supplied the Doubledays with the only multiple RBI effort of the game. Matt Cusiak and Alberto Cruz came away with two RBI each for Tri-City.
Kyle Walter (0-4) picked up another loss after just 4 1-3 innings of work. Fanning just one batter, Walter gave up four hits, including two home runs from Collin DeLome and Cusick, but only two of the eight runs scored while he was on the mound were earned. Noah Triz came into the game in relief in the fifth and gave up four more hits in 2 2-3 innings, including a third ValleyCats homer, off the bat of Brandon Barnes. Victor Garate got the win for Tri-City after striking out seven Doubledays.
