Chicken barbecue to benefit church
A chicken barbecue will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 163 S. Cayuga St., Union Springs. It will benefit the Trinity United Church of Christ Women & Youth Group, and it is sponsored by the Union Springs Lions.

Garlic festival to be held in August

Fox Run Vineyards will hold its 15th annual Garlic Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug. 5, at the vineyards, 670 State Route 14, Penn Yan. This free event is one of the largest garlic festivals in New York.

Visitors may stock up on fresh garlic bulbs, food products infused with garlic, as well as a number of other local and regional specialties ranging from hot sauce to marinades, jams, fresh herbs, fresh produce and flowers.

Also featured will be glass blowing demonstrations by the Corning Museum of Glass, live music and cooking demonstrations by executive chef for Fox Run, Frank Caravita.

Recipes needed for local cookbook

The Skaneateles Festival Cookbook will compile recipes from fans of the 28-year-old festival for release in November.

Recipes can be submitted through Wednesday, Aug. 15, at www.skanfest.org by clicking “Festival Cookbook.” Anyone interested in submitting a recipe can also call 685-7418, e-mail music@skanfest.org or pick up a recipe form at the festival held in Skaneateles Aug. 8 through 11.

Firehouse to host barbecue, bake sale

The Poplar Ridge Volunteer Fire Department along with the Cub Scouts will hold a chicken barbecue and bake sale at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the fire house, Route 34B in Poplar Ridge.

Prices for the barbecue are $4 for a half and $6 for a dinner. Pre-orders can be made by calling 364-7344 and leaving a message.

Museum fundraiser features food, beer

The Cayuga Museum will host a fundraiser event featuring food from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and music by Los Blancos. The event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Deauville Island Shelter at Emerson Park.

Beer and drinks will be available for purchase through the Fleming Volunteer Fire Department.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $35 and available by advance sale only. They can be purchased at the Cayuga Museum, 203 Genesee St., Auburn, or by calling 253-8051 for other ticket sale locations.

Knapp Winery to celebrate 25 years

Knapp Winery and Restaurant will celebrate its 25th year in the Finger Lakes Wine Industry with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, on the lawn at the winery. To round out the weekend long celebration, Knapp is hosting an old fashioned chicken barbecue from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 25.

Film crew looking for chicken wings

A documentary film crew is coming to Cayuga County in search of the world's best Buffalo wing. Before they arrive, they would like tips on what area bars and restaurants make the best chicken wings. Send tips to: organizers@chickenwinghunt.com.

The world's first wing-eating tour begins in Manhattan Aug. 18 and ends in Buffalo Sunday, Sept. 2. The crew plans to arrive in the Finger Lakes area approximately one week into the journey. An exact date will be set as August draws near.
