CATO - An early-evening fire Thursday gutted a father-son business in Cato, causing upward of $50,000 in damage. The blaze touched off around 6:17 p.m. at Parry Well Drilling, said Chris Lukins, Cayuga County Sheriff's deputy. Andrew Harrington, 51, of 12462 Jordan Road, operated the business in a garage at the rear of his residence.

AUBURN - The last time the Auburn school district considered renaming one of its schools after Harriet Tubman seven years ago, the idea drew a groundswell of student and community opposition. But that was then, and this is now. Board member Chuck Mason Tuesday asked the board to consider naming Genesee Elementary School after Tubman, who made her home here for nearly five decades and is buried in Auburn.
