AUBURN - The Auburn Doubledays have the best record (13-2) in the New York-Penn League when they score first. Unfortunately for them, Hudson Valley had a monster first inning at Falcon Park on Friday. The Doubledays couldn't get the production that they needed from their offense and lost their second consecutive game, 9-3.

Renegades' left fielder Cody Cipriano blasted a three-run home run in the first inning off of Alan Farina, who was making his professional debut on the mound. Farina lasted just 2-3 of the inning and got the loss, but struck out two batters.

Things only got worse for the Doubledays, who mustered just one hit in the first four innings and seven overall. An error and three hits led to three more scores for Hudson Valley in the third. Stephen Vogt, Michael McCormick and Reid Fronk, who was also making his professional debut, earned RBIs in the inning. Maiko Loyola ripped a two-run triple in the fourth to complete the Renegades' nine-run outing.

The Doubledays went through five pitchers overall. Marc Rzepczynski replaced Farina, and went 2 1-3 innings. Drew Taylor came into the game in the fourth and lasted three innings, giving up only the two hits in the fourth. Joe Wice and Noah Tritz worked the last three innings and didn't give up a hit.

Jesse Darcy picked up his second win of the season in four starts.

He pitched five innings, striking out five and allowing just three hits. Baron Frost brought in the first run for the Doubledays, on a sacrifice fly to center field to score JP Arencibia.

The brightest spot in the game for the Doubledays came in the eighth when right fielder Victor Santana belted his fourth home run of the season over the right field wall.

The homer also brought in Darin Mastroianni, who reached on an infield single. Santana now shares the team lead in home runs with fellow outfielder Adam Calderone.

With two outs, the Doubledays had one last chance to come up with a rally in the ninth. Kelly Sweppenhiser and Luis Sanchez each singled off of Brian Flores to give the team a remote chance, but Shawn Scobee became the twelfth batter to strike out.

Despite getting some playing time for nearly their entire bench, third baseman Sweppenhiser was the only batter to come up with multiple hits (two) for the Doubledays.

With a State College loss to Staten Island on Friday, Auburn (17-14) still holds a 1.5 game lead of the Pinckney Division.

They look to get back on track today in game two against the Renegades (14-16), who are tied for last place of the McNamara Division.
