Man charged with menacing with gun
A Moravia man allegedly fired a 20-gauge shotgun at his brother's feet during an argument June 29, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell C. Podolak, 18, of 4262 Duryea Street, was charged at 12:30 a.m. June 29 with the misdemeanors of second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Podolak's brother was not hurt and was able to wrestle the shotgun away, authorities said.
Firetruck pull to benefit athletes
The 1,300 athletes of the Special Olympics New York Central Region will benefit from a firetruck pull competition scheduled for Saturday, July 21.
Teams of 10 people will compete to see which team can move a fully-equipped firetruck 20 feet in the fastest time. Teams can still register the day of the event. Registration is $500 for a team of 10 pullers.
Registration begins at 12 p.m., and the competition begins at 1 p.m. at Casey Park on North Division Street in Auburn.
The Auburn Doubledays have also declared Saturday's 6:05 p.m. game Special Olympian Night. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Guided tour of cemetery offered
A guided walk of Conquest Cemetery will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21. Tour guides will highlight some of the early settlers and some later contributors to the history of the town, and refreshments will follow the one-hour walk.

Port Byron village meeting Monday
The Village of Port Byron meeting scheduled for Monday, July 23, has been changed to 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 30, at the municipal building.
Village meetings are normally held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
Toastmasters club starts in Auburn
A new Toastmasters club has recently formed in Auburn.
The Happy Talk Toastmasters Club was initiated to accommodate the needs of interested participants in and around the Auburn area. The original club, formed in 1987, conducts its business out of Skaneateles.
Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization that provides a supportive environment for the development of speaking and leadership skills as well as learn how to conduct meetings, manage a department or business, and lead, delegate and motivate others.
The Happy Talk Toastmasters have organized a mentoring program at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 25 Seminary Ave., Auburn.
The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the church at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, July 24. For more information, contact Michael Ricci, the club's president, at 252-4561.
