Each Friday, The Citizen features someone in education from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks: This week, we spotlight Colleen Wood, graduate student and political intern.
Q. What is most rewarding part of your internship? Why?
A. Seeing local politics in action. It's good to see someone who cares about local issues and lets Albany know how the local people feel.
Q. What is the most challenging?
A. Trying to make everyone happy. You're never going to please 100 percent of the population.
Q. Why did you decide to take this internship?
A. I wanted to gain a better understanding of how state politics work.
Q. What do you hope to accomplish by the time your internship ends?
A. To have a better understanding of the region and people's concerns.
Q. What projects have you most enjoyed and why?
A. I've enjoyed putting together materials for the local baseball nights for Sen. Nozzolio.
Q. What do you like most about the Finger Lakes region?
A. I love the landscapes. There aren't too many other places I've been that compare to the Finger Lakes.
Q. What is the part of your day you could do without?
A. I'm not a morning person, so I could do without the alarm clocks and early mornings.
Q. When you finish school, what would you like to do?
A. I'm not quite sure yet, but having a job is definitely a priority!
Q. People who know you would be most surprised to find out what about you?
A. I speak Hungarian.
Q. Do you have any fun plans for this summer? What are they?
A. I plan on visiting some friends in Kingston and Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and taking a trip with my extended family to Cape Cod.
