Time to catch everyone up on what's happening with some locally produced talent who are making their mark in the entertainment industry.
“Hair” opens this week and runs through July 28 at Ithaca's Hangar Theater. The classic rock musical features Auburn's Celeste Sayles, daughter of Merry-Go-Round Producing Director Ed Sayles and Equity actress Sue Ann Cunliff. And while were climbing the Sayles family tree, we may as well add that son Austin is currently casting director for Fox TVs hit show, “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”
Meanwhile, Auburn's Kiff Scholl is directing a feature film called “Scream of the Bikini.” It's an independent film co-written with Bill Robens and featuring a cameo by Randolph Mantooth of TVs “Emergency.” Scholl recently guest starred on “Reno 911” as one of the Junior brothers and won a Backstage Garland Award for directing “La Bete” at Sacred Fools Theater in Hollywood. He also won an L.A. Weekly award for Best One-Act Ensemble for “The Bomba Trilogy: Darkness” at Theatre of NOTE in Hollywood. Look for him as an upscale deli owner in a Miller Beer ad this fall.
Mark DeMichele of Skaneateles will appear in “Parens,” by Alexander Danner, and direct “Save Me,” by Stefanie Zadravic, for this year's Phoenix Theatre New Works Festival. DeMichele is a co-founder of the prestigious festival. Additionally, he has agreed to play Caesar in an independent film production of “Julius Caesar” set in urban Phoenix; principal photography is scheduled to begin this August.
Marc Petrosino of Auburn has formed Monkey Boys Productions with three other puppeteers and builders. The group recently returned from Mexico where they shot a SONY ad. They are currently building puppets for Nickelodeon's “Go, Diego Live!” stage show. His brother, Joe, is touring as a technician with the National Company of “The Light in the Piazza,” currently playing in Chicago. They make Mama Rose proud.
Rob McNeill of Auburn now lives in Chicago, performing with the Chicago Symphony (baritone) and as a member of the a capella group, An Octave Above.
Adam Rigby of Auburn recently served as sound mixer for “Shout! The Mod Musical,” at the Julia Miles Theater, Off-Broadway in New York. Georgia Martin of Union Springs is a Theater Professor at Campbell College in North Carolina. Joe Sheppard of Auburn is first assistant technical director at Florida Grand Opera in Miami.
Oh, and there's some theater to see as well. An excellent “Peter Pan,” ends its run this weekend and a much anticipated “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” opens July 25 MGR Playhouse.

€ “Menopause: The Musical” has been extended through Aug. 12, at Syracuse's Syracuse Stage.

€ “I Do! I Do!” July 20 through 28, at Greater Rochester Repertory Company, Mendon.
