In front of one of the biggest crowds of the season, Auburn's Mike Charles threw an incredible game, scattering eight strikeouts and allowing just one hit in the team's 20-1 win over Waterloo in the semifinals round of the New York State District 5, 10-11 year old all-star tournament at Emerson Park on Tuesday.
Charles also led Auburn at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a three run home run and six RBIs all together.
Auburn tallied 16 hits, with Ryan Ringwood, Johnny Rozzo, Mike Foltz and Danny DeFranco each chipping in with three hits. Nicky Mitchell also added a two run double in addition to his great play in left field.
Hunter Charles also played well at first base with a couple of great catches.
After recording 13 runs in the first three innings, Waterloo's Nick Bailey belted a home run in the fourth for the team's solo hit. DJ Darling pitched well in the loss.
In the second game on Tuesday, Domonick Salone got the win for Geneva in an 11-7 win over Northern Cayuga.
Chris DePalma led at the plate for Geneva, while Jake Melfi gathered two hits for Northern Cayuga.
Joe Fritz threw well on the mound, but earned the loss as Northern Cayuga was eliminated from the tournament.
Auburn will play in the finals round at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Emerson Park.
They will play the winner of today's game between Waterloo and Geneva.
