Sting ordered to pay ex-chef for discrimination
An employment tribunal ordered Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, on Tuesday to pay a former chef $51,000 in compensation after she won a sexual-discrimination claim against them.
Jane Martin, 41, won her claim in May. She said she was fired after she became pregnant.
At a hearing earlier this year, Martin said she had worked for the 55-year-old pop star and his wife for eight years, cooking meals for them and guests including Madonna and Elton John.
She said Styler grew unhappy with her after she became pregnant in 2005, making her work long hours and growing angry when she took time off work because of illness.
Martin, who accused Styler of having a “grandiose ego,” left her job under disputed circumstances in April 2006.
Michael Jackson must pay up on legal fees
Michael Jackson has been told to pay more than $256,000 in legal fees to a firm that handled some side issues during his 2005 child molestation trial.
A Superior Court judge signed a judgment Friday that awarded $216,837 along with $39,177 in interest to the Torrance firm of Ayscough & Marar, according to court records.
Jackson's attorney, Marshall Brubacher, agreed in principle to the judgment June 26, when he told the judge that going to trial would be costlier and “we want to stop the hemorrhaging.”
The law firm sued the 48-year-old pop star for failing to pay legal fees for preventing the release of some information to the public and to lawyers in civil cases during his 2005 criminal trial in Santa Barbara County. Jackson was eventually acquitted of child molestation charges.
Jackson countersued the law firm but that case was dismissed.
Daniel Baldwin opens up about cocaine addiction
Daniel Baldwin opened up about his cocaine addiction in a series of confessional video diaries, taped at various stages of his treatment, that were shown Tuesday night on ABC News' “Primetime.”
Baldwin, brother of actors William, Stephen and Alec Baldwin, allowed “Primetime” to chart his progress through a three-month drug treatment program at Renaissance Malibu, in Malibu, Calif. He taped more than 19 video entries for “Primetime.”
“I've been very thorough in my recovery, and identified where I am powerless,” the 46-year-old actor said. “And I'm truly powerless over cocaine. There's no question about that in my life.” Last year, police said they found Baldwin and another man in a Santa Monica motel, along with cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
