Poplar Ridge man faces fraud charge
A Poplar Ridge man being held in Cayuga County Jail on pending felony counts of driving while intoxicated and other charges was charged Friday by the Auburn Police Department in a financial fraud case.
Angelo Amodei Sr., 41, was charged with the felony of second-degree possession of forged instrument and the misdemeanor of petit larceny.
Amodei is accused of using a counterfeit insurance check written for $4,922 to open a savings account in May. Police said Amodei withdrew around $1,000 before the fake check was caught.
Police get slingshot, all the marbles
An Auburn resident was charged by the Auburn Police Department with breaking a window at Wet Willy's Tavern at 221 State St. by shooting a marble at the window with a slingshot. Another Auburn resident was charged with lying to police in his statement about the incident.
Joshua L. Sylvester, of 23 Case Ave., was charged with the misdemeanor of a false written statement. Heather M. Harris, of 25 Cayuga St., was charged with the misdemeanor of fourth-degree criminal mischief.
A patrol officer observed the slingshot action breaking a front window at the tavern and pulled their vehicle over, police said.
Police said they recovered the slingshot and white marbles.
Any property owners who believe their properties may have been damaged are asked to call police at 253-3235.
Lattimore to host party at Falcon Park
The campaign to re-elect Mayor Timothy Lattimore will host a party under the tent at 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Falcon Park. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $12 for children 12 and younger.
Airfield days return Aug. 8 to 12
The event will grow from two to five days this year. The inaugural airfield days drew more than 250 people last year.
The Long Hill Fire Department will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Aug. 11 and 12 with barbecue lunch and dinner both days. There will also be a flea market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Saturday, Aug. 11 includes a spot landing contest for fixed wing and ultralight aircraft starting at 1 p.m.
The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 811 of Ithaca will sponsor demonstrations designed to get children and teens interested in aviation on Sunday.
The event will run 9 a.m. to sunset each day with free parking at the airfield, 3900 Long Hill Road, Moravia. The public is invited to fly or drive in.
