Moore's movie not telling Americans anything new

Tuesday, July 17, 2007 10:10 AM EDT

OK. I admit I haven't seen Michael Moore's latest film “Sicko” yet, but from the reviews and all the hype on TV, I'm afraid my hero's halo has slipped completely off his head.
While everything described in the movie is undeniably true about our critically ill health care system, Moore's solution to the problem is nothing more than a Medicare Plan on steroids, i.e., socialized medicine like they have in Communist Cuba and that semi-police state north of the border, Canada.

So welcome to the USSR in the USA.

My personal theory is that the former USSR fell from its own paper weight.

The Reds invented the term “red tape” in case you didn't know.

And as anyone over 65 or poor can tell you, Medicare and Medicaid are nightmares of red tape.

Mountains of unintelligible rules and regs - plan ABCDEFG, etc. Not even the bureaucrats who wrote the rules understand them.

In case no one has noticed, whether you're on Medicare or have private insurance, the quality of “health” care (a euphemism for a “sick” way of piling up profits for the HMOs and drug companies took over the FDA.

So, Moore's lame-brained “solution” will do nothing to curb the 1,000 ads a day for drugs on TV; nor will it curb our government reps from taking bribes; nor will it stop the FDA from rubber-stamping untested drugs to be released to an unsuspecting public who are nothing more than human Guinea pigs.

What I had hoped against hope would be the result of Moore's

landmark movie would have been to put a muzzle and leash on the

pharmaceuticals and HMOs to

make them accountable for the

myriad of cold-blooded “mistakes”

that end up killing countless Americans.

Profit, moola, dirty lucre, politics, bribes, hand-greasing, lobbying, etc. need to be surgically removed from the healthcare system for the common good.

Our good. The life we save may be our own.

" For a state sponsored health plan, check out the new system in Massachusetts. Mitt Romney did one thing right as governor with this sysytem. By the years end every citizen will affordable health care. And if you like the health care you have now you may even be qualified for premium assistance. And by having all income levels covered, the hospitals will not have to pick up the bill for low income persons that cannot pay. This saves everyone money. As an example, a single person income of up to 22k that has no employee health insurance available pays a monthly premium of $40 a month and over that amount $70 a month up to $30k income. It is a great plan. "

" If the health care in Cuba is so wonderfull. Why did Castro go to Europe for his "health" problems? Moore is a millionare acting like a poor person. He is a hypocrite of the worst kind. Anything the goverment runs ends up costing more. Then getting less for the money. Goverment health provided health care is a JOKE. Ask someone that lives in Canada. How really wonderfull the goverment provided health care is. You may hear an earfull. Some people just love a hand out. I like less goverment, the private sector is the best. "

" I've seen Bowling for Columbine. I've seen Fahrenheit 9/11. I may not always agree with the man, but I respect his work and what he stands for and the fact that he's trying to make a difference in his own way. As for putting money away, there's very little to put away. X-rays and specialists are a bit pricier than Tylenol Cough & Cold. If I treat myself to one trip to the theatres this year, it'll be to see Sicko. "

" dayou, put a little money away for coughs and colds and you will not have to go in debt. Infact do not go to the movies and waste you time, gas and money supporting that idiot. "

" Why isn't this movie playing in Auburn? I plan to drive to Carousel Mall this weekend to go see it. THEN, and only then, will I form an opinion about the film. One thing is for sure, EVERYONE should see it. Uninformed people may become more informed, and the informed may become more motivated to spark reform. As someone who has lived in Canada and in Europe, I can tell you that while no system is perfect, a universal health care system would quell many of the ills you speak of in your editorial. Don't be so quick to judge. - A hardworking American who is sick of going into debt every time my child sneezes. "
