Auburn advances to regional tourney

Tom Herbert hit a home run and doubled as the Auburn Nationals defeated Geneva Red 10-2 in the championship game of the District V Pony League All-Star Tournament in Geneva on Friday.
Auburn advances to the regional championship tournament, beginning on Saturday, July 28 in Elmira.

Justin Valentino earned the win, throwing four innings, striking out eight and allowing three hits.

Jack Burgmaster pitched two innings in relief and struck out three.

Also leading the Auburn offense was Max Pinchak (two hits), Valentino (two hits), Burgmaster, Nick Petrosino and Joe Dyson. The defense was led by Austin Duger, Trent Lawrence and PJ Casper.

BABE RUTH LEAGUE

ACF 7, Trombley 2

Robbi Watros (double) had three hits and Nick Herlihy had two singles to lead ACF. Watros also picked up the win.

Mike Gordon doubled, Mike Gacka singled and Bobby Gage and Jamie Terry had RBIs. Defensively, ACF was led by Gage behind the plate who picked off three base runners.

For Trombley's, Luke Christiantelli pitched and A.J. Spinelli had two singles and a double. Christiantelli and John Fiermonte also picked up hits.

Giuseppes 10, Firefighters 1

Giuseppes' Andrew Sanders threw five innings of one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts. Zach LaDouce got the save.

Sanders led the offense with a double and a triple while Nick Price also picked up two hits.

Zach Cousineau, LaDouce and Steve Komanecky also had hits while Matt Patterson was on base three times and scored twice.

For Firefighters, Nathaniel Donch and Tim Smith split pitching duties. The scattered seven hits and picked up six strikeouts.

Zach Clark and Donch had the only hits as well.

Giuseppes 8, SK Post 6

Steve Komanecky pitched a complete game with 12 stikeouts for Giuseppes. Nick Price had a two-run double, Andrew Sanders had a triple and Komanecky, Josh Eldred and Erica Querns had the other hits.

For SK Post, Brad Murdoch (triple) had two hits. Dave Sargent, Mike Ferlenda and Bob Dushatinski also had base hits.

Ferlenda, Dushatinski and Kris Corey split mound duties.
