Man charged with DWI after crash
A Weedsport man was charged by the New York State Police in Elbridge with driving while intoxicated after he allegedly ran into three parked cars at the Millstone Golf Course in Elbridge Friday, police said.

Dale R. Wheeler, 25, of 2968 Towpath Road, called police when he returned home to report the accident, police said.

Wheeler had a blood alcohol count over the legal limit of .08, police said.

NYSEG helicopter to inspect lines

Weather permitting, residents may see a helicopter flying low over parts of Cayuga and Onondaga counties Tuesday, July 17. New York State Electric & Gas will be conducting routine inspections of high-voltage power lines in the region.

Judy Schroeder, NYSEG's director of regional operations, said in a news release that helicopters make inspecting power lines fast and efficient and that the helicopters provide an excellent vantage point for the work.

Planning board to hold meeting

The regularly scheduled meeting of the New York State General Municipal Law 239 Review Committee of the Cayuga County Planning board will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 19, in the fifth-floor conference room of the County Office Building on Genesee Street in Auburn.

On the agenda is a subdivision in the town of Locke; a subdivision in the village of Aurora; two special permits in the town of Brutus; and a site plan in the town of Aurelius.

Teen injured in one-car accident

The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Montezuma early Sunday morning to the scene of a one-car accident, according to Sgt. Corey Colton.

Cynthia A. Verdi, 18, of Port Byron, drove her Ford pick-up truck off West Loop Road one-tenth of a mile south of Dwyer Road in Montezuma, causing it to roll over.

The accident was reported at 3:33 a.m.

Verdi was admitted by an ambulance from the Port Byron Fire Department to State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse with possible hand and lower arm injuries.

Updates on Verdi's status was unavailable at time of press.

Officials secured blood, and are now waiting for the rests of the test to see if there was impairment, Colton said.

“Speed may also be a contributing factor,” he said.
