Each Monday, The Citizen features someone from the Finger Lakes community.
This week, we spotlight Dean Tanner semi-retired teacher.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. Seeing a student accomplish a task that was difficult and the smile.
Q. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A. At my age, trying to keep up with juniors and seniors.
Q. What would be your dream job, and in what part of the world would you be working?
A. I have the dream job - working with students is a powerful experience, and I can't think of any place else I'd rather be than right here. I made a great choice 38 years ago.
Q. What's the best way to relax after a tough day?
A. I love spending time with my granddaughter and family.
Q. What do you like most about the Finger Lakes?
A. This is a very caring community and coupled with the beautiful scenery, that makes this a special place.
Q. If you had the choice of meeting any three people in the world, who would they be and why?
A. Michael Jordan, because I admire his talent. The Rev. Jesse Jackson, because I heard him speak in person and was overwhelmed with his spirit. And J.K. Rowling, because her ability to capture audiences of all ages is amazing.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. Playing with lots of grandchildren #) they will keep me young at heart.
Q. If you win the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing you'd do?
A. Buy a big house on the lake so my family could come for as long as they want.
Q. What would people who think they know you, be most surprised to find out about you?
A. I love to cook
Q. If you were mayor or supervisor, what's the first thing you'd change?
A. I greatly respect Mayor Trufant and Supervisor Bower because they do a remarkable job. I would like to hold an occasional “how goes it” meeting, so people could just speak about what is good and what needs to be changed.
Q. Do you have any special plans for the next few months?
A. We are taking my granddaughter to Hershey Park.
