The Conquest Fire Company did a very nice thing for a lady who is well respected in our community - Hazel Gillhuly, who was past Conquest Senior of the Year and Cayuga County Senior of the Year.

I have written about Hazel in the past, but I can't help but write about her again this year. She is truly a very special person. The fire company donated a wishing well in Hazel's name. The well was placed on the very corner where Hazel has planted and watered flowers as long as I can remember. Hazel has also planted flowers and watered and cared for them at our Municipal Center and Park.

She takes pride in her community. The Conquest Town Board will proclaim June 30 Hazel Gillhuly day in the Town of Conquest during the Town Board meeting Tuesday, July 17. Also, a plaque will be placed on a wall at the Town Municipal Center stating June 30 Hazel Gillhuly Day.

So Hazel will always be remembered for her dedication to our community.

Thanks to the fire company members for taking time out of their own celebration to make June 30 a special day for Hazel. Thank you also to Joni Lincoln for her great job as usual and Deloris Cronin for her nice job on the wishing well. For those who attended it will be a day we will always remember.
