CCJ reports 169 inmates in residence
The Cayuga County Jail was housing 169 inmates as of Friday, the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office reported.

A total of 140 men and 18 women are in custody. A total of 11 male minors between the ages of 16 to 18 are in custody.

Two inmates are boarded in from another county, and 34 inmates are boarded in from federal custody. A total of 65 inmates have pending criminal matters and are of a pre-sentencing status, and 70 are serving a sentence. Two are serving time related to parole violations. Four are awaiting transfer to the custody of the Department of Correctional Services.

Teen charged with shooting BB gun

A 17-year-old boy shot his brother in the stomach with a BB gun Thursday night, the Auburn Police Department reported.

The brothers were arguing when the elder brother began shooting at the younger with a BB gun, police said. The younger teen suffered a welt on his stomach from the BB.

The elder was charged around 8:43 p.m. with the violation of discharging a weapon within city limits. The BB gun was confiscated.

Details sought in Weedsport robbery

The New York State Police are seeking information regarding a burglary on Clinton Road in Weedsport committee between 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5, and 6 a.m., July 6. Two handguns, a shotgun and a coin collection were taken from a private building, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 255-2766.

Trial set for man charged with abuse

A trial date has been set for Sept. 17 to 19 in the case of man accused of sexually abusing a girl younger than 6 between December and February.

Wayne Bresee, 51, with a last known address of 420 Melone Village, Auburn, faces three felony counts of first-degree sexual abuse and the misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child.

Judge Thomas Leone ruled that statements Bresee made to police are admissible at a jury trial following a Huntley hearing during which Officer Michael Warter and Detective William Gleason of the Auburn Police Department testified, Chief Assistant District Attorney Jon Budelmann said.

An in-chambers conference regarding the case is scheduled for Aug. 13.

Port Byron Heritage Days coming soon

Port Byron Heritage Days are coming Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3 and 4.

People can enjoy a parade at 7 p.m. Friday, at the Port Byron High School and enjoy live music and food afterwards.

A pancake breakfast will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, at the Port Byron Fire Department on Utica Street. Then families can enjoy a variety of games and events throughout Saturday on Mentz Drive. This includes a bake sale, face painting, book sale, games and food.

The Masons will make children's identification cards.

Quill-for-mayor campaign to kick off

The Committee to Elect Michael Quill for Auburn mayor will kick off the campaign from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the American Legion Post, 168 State St., Auburn.

Tickets cost $10. Checks can be made out to the committee, 86 Lansing St., Auburn. People can also preregister by Monday, July 30, by calling 253-4371.

Bill Jacobs is serving as the former Auburn fire chief's campaign manager.
