Some may compare it to paradise, with enough food, music and fun to entertain an army.
This summer marks the third annual Erie Canal Celebration held in the villages of Jordan and Elbridge.
As many onlookers saunter down the streets, they will discover rustic treasures throughout the villagewide yard sales and antiques growing more precious with age.
The celebration also includes an art show, live reptile exhibits from Max Man Reptile Rescue; an Erie Canal Cloggers demonstration; the Syracuse Symphony String Quartet 2; Erie Canal songs by Dave Ruck; and Tribal Fusion belly dancing demonstrations.
There will also be a book signing for the historical novel “Towpath Adventures,” by Jack and Judi Woods, and Coastie the Coast Guard's safety boat will make an appearance to promote youth education and boating safety, along with several fuzzy alpaca friends.
Elbridge will host a chicken barbecue, and both villages will participate in the treasure hunting in the villages.
“There's just so much to do for everyone,” Maureen Doyle, chairperson of the Erie Canal Celebration Committee said. “(People) will enjoy a full day of family fun with music, dancing and tons of food.”
A few local specialties will also be available, such as homemade doughnuts and a special presentation by the Neighbors of the Onondagas, in which an introduction into the history and culture of the nation will be explained.
“It's growing every year,” said Doyle as she rattled off the laundry list of events taking place throughout the villages. “My favorite is the antiques. There will also be reptiles, alpacas and Lucille the mule.”
Doyle believes Lucille is from Warners.
“She's a great mule, but then again I don't know too many mules,” Doyle chuckled by way of explanation.
