Two Cents

Michael Bass, candidate for district attorney: What have you done and what interest have you had for Cayuga County for the last four years? You moved to the Albany area.
Vietnam veterans, let's show some support for the new memorial park being built in downtown Auburn. It's for all veterans in Cayuga County.

I read the Two Cent column every day and rarely find anyone saying anything congratulatory to Murray Lynch. Murray, I applaud you for every letter you have written because you have yet to write a letter that hasn't been articulate, informative, factual and ringing with the truth.

Sales tax on a gallon of gas is roughly 25 cents; so on a 30-gallon tankful, you're paying out $7.50 sales tax. Where in God's name is all this money going -- the county has become a sham.

Part-time Cayuga County legislators get full health coverage including dental care. And on top of that, they do not pay one dime.

How about the Cayuga County legislators getting full health care including dental coverage. Where do you find that?

Why did the police even bother arresting Cordes. He's one of those rich Skaneateles brats that'll get a walk anyhow.

To all you “I support the troops” politicians: How many of your hundreds of thousands of dollars have you spent sending cooling scarves to those troops?

How about turning Fingerlakes Mall into a casino? It would be better than what's there now!

They wonder why the young people are leaving Auburn. They just get something going for the young people and they cancel it out, I think it's a shame.

I thought the new city manager wanted to beautify the city. Well, maybe he should start by getting the trash picked up along the streets.

Police Chief Gianotta should stop the fireworks at the lake so he won't overwork his officers the way they were overworked at Music on the Mall.

What happens if a person works the hours the post office is open; how are we supposed to get our mail if we have to go pick it up? Why not close all the government offices to save money?

Must be that the tattoo and body piercing business in Auburn is really booming, we seem to be getting more of these places in Auburn all the time. I think these places ought to require a license. I don't know if they do or not, but it would be nice to know.

I was really surprised to see it in print, that people didn't think John Chick was honest. It surprised many people.

John Chick has been pardoned. they just want to look busy for now so they're playing games.

Every time the town of Fleming has a proposal for new development, they want to revise their zoning laws - I wonder if anyone will ever get to use these new laws? Will the town have these new zoning laws in effect before all the lawsuits are settled; property owners should be able to develop their property without harassment or prejudice.

Maybe Carole Estabrook and Lisa Backus should get together and solve that Julie Monson murder, or any other one of the many unsolved murders that have gone on in Cayuga County over the years - you know, the ones with all the rumors attached to them. Maybe then what they have to say would hold more relevancy and hold my interest more than 3 seconds.

Mr. Hotaling, you have the money for a lake steward so put him or her to work. The summer is half over.

I'd like to know when they're gonna tear that red brick building down on the corner of James and Orchard Street, or are they going to renovate it? That really is an eyesore, sitting there like that with the windows boarded up and grass growing up.

President Eisenhower said that it would be a mistake for America to get involved in a land war in Asia, but he committed advisors only to Vietnam. Perhaps I didn't make it clear that Kennedy was the first to order Americans into combat, which Eisenhower adamantly refused to do - I don't need a history book, I'm old enough to remember.

I've purchased my last flowers from a local greenhouse. The planting season has ended and they still are charging full price.

" Bobbo -- you are good at jumping to conclusions, esp. if it gives you an opportunity to bad-mouth someone. Guess what? I'm not a liberal (I'm not a conservative either -- those labels are near meaningless stereotypes). I said NOTHING about government regulation -- you made that up out of your head as a straw man to attack. (Nor was I whining.) What I was suggesting was working things out the free martket way -- i.e. just don't buy their overpriced flowers. Next time try not to read things into my words which aren't there so you don't make such a fool of yourself when you respond. And honestly, it isn't a big deal -- just looks like it when there's more than one post on a subject. "

" I agree on the flower thing. Nothing to get so worked up over that it has to turn into an issue all the way up to a political thang?..lol "

" It may be a bad business model, but thats their business, not yours. They can charge as much as they want for flowers or is she suggesting government reguation on florists!?! You liberals whine about everything. You expect big governemnt to bully business to your liking then complain about high taxes from the machine you created. Let the free market work it out, not regulation. The same goes for tattoo shops, if the demand is there, they'll be successful and contribute to your tax base, if not they'll go bye-bye. "

" Maybe the person's flowers died in all the heat and lack of rain and s/he wants to replace them. Maybe s/he was busy during the regular planting season, or out of town and only can get to it now. Maybe the person can't afford plants at the regular prices and waits to the end of the season to pick through the scruffy remains for a few decent plants to buy. But most of all -- what business is it of yours WHY someone is buying plants now? The point is valid -- at the end of the season, what's left usually goes on clearance -- the selection is poor and the plants are often bedraggled at best and SHOULD be marked down. If someone can sucker people into paying the full price at this late date, I say, just don't do business with them and they will learn it's a poor business model. "

" Where have you people been? The county legislatures have been getting FREE health care for years. They vote themselves a raise an no one cares. More people should attend the various committee meeting held on the 6th floor at the county office building. Once they see their legislature in action, they'll wonder whey they ever voted for them!! "

" Every County Legialtor should be replaced . No one of them should be receiving health benefits for a part time job. Especially when these people have one agenda- tax the s@#* out of the working class. If any of them had a spine they would look at ways to reduce taxes not increase them. Look at the number of homes around this community that are for sale. People have had enough with the spend, spend, spend attitude that these people have. If Fearon, Pappert and the rest of these band of thieves had our interests in mind then they would have ended the health care benefit as a start. I for one will not vote for my representative next time around. "

" M Bass? He is obviously just looking for the publicity as usual. He should be ashamed of himself for even showing his face around here again, pulled the same crap pretty much in St Lawrence. He'll more than likely move on soon as he has not got a snowballs chance in you know where of becoming the DA of this county, have pity on his next group of followers once they get a look at the picture he has to offer which is not a thing only in his mind! No clue does he have the cruel impact on peoples lives he left behind... "

" I think that people should take care of their trash cans on trash day- like after the trash men come and take it away or when you get home from work that day. It's such an eye sore when the trash cans are left out by the curb until the next trash day. "
