Why and how can the city manager decide if a musical event (with alcohol) can or cannot be held downtown? Is this his decision only or is this issue open for public discussion? If the city council would vote to not have an event such as this due to liability and all of the problems it may cause, why do they sponsor the Duck Derby? There is alcohol outside and people can bring their own.
When a city wants to create business and tourists by keeping downtown open until 9 p.m. and installing new sidewalk pavers and the next week denies a business to host an outdoor music event (with alcohol) like hundreds of cities do regularly, why would someone want to come to Auburn. Why are you beautifying downtown? No one is going to show up.
Not all the problem drunks are going to flock to Spirits on Friday nights to cause havoc. They're usually found on State Street, which I believe is our police department's biggest customer.
This is very typical of Auburn politics and I believe every time anyone between the age of 25 to 40 wants to enjoy themselves in Auburn, they get in their car and head to Geneva, Syracuse, Ithaca, etc. That's just the way you want it. No problems = No people.
