Empire College holds info sessions
Empire State College, of the State University of New York, will hold public information sessions about its undergraduate degree programs at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, and at noon Friday, July 27, at the Central New York Center, Second Floor, 219 Walton St., Syracuse.

The college's innovative options include guided independent study with a faculty mentor, group studies and on-line learning, in addition to credit earned through college-level life learning.

College representatives will be available at the information session to answer questions about the college's flexible associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs.

Artist to display watercolor art

The Lucas Gallery will exhibit watercolor artist Steve Ryan this month. The show opens at 6 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the gallery, 33 Jordan St., Skaneateles, and will be on display until mid September.

Ryan is a career professional graphic artist who enjoys the exhilarating challenge of impressionistic, wet-to-wet watercolors. He runs his own Graphic Design Studio in Skaneateles and is an adjunct professor of art at SUNY OCC, teaching computer graphics and advanced graphic design.

Lucas Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Book Bonanza coming soon to mall

The 16th annual Book Bonanza to benefit St. Joseph School will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the Fingerlakes Mall in Aurelius.

Paperbacks and children's books will be for sale for 50 cents, hardcovers for $1 and a “better books” section will offer items ranging from $1 to $10. Sunday is “$2 a bag day” or gather a bag of better book for $5 per bag.

Italian festival to be held by church

Our Lady of the Snow Parish will hold its second annual Italian Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, at St. John's Church, 36 Rochester St., Port Byron.

The festival will feature homemade Italian food, a cake wheel, children's games, door prizes and more.

Cost for adults is $7.50, children under 12 are $4. and children under 5 are $3.

Cooperative to hold driver safety class

Cornell Cooperative Extension is sponsoring an AARP Driver Safety Program class from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 26 and 27, at 248 Grant Ave., Auburn.

Registration is at 12:15 p.m. You must attend classes on both days to receive AARP's certificate of completion to qualify for an insurance discount.

The class is intended for people 50 years and older. Advance registration is required.

Bring a drivers license and pen. Cost is $10 per participant.
