Government on all levels disregards the citizenry

Saturday, July 7, 2007 11:38 PM EDT

Here goes my opinion again. In the June 30 Two Cents column, someone wrote they couldn't figure out why our kids don't appreciate our Constitution, thinking it was due to the generational gap. I think it's mostly because of the disregard our government leaders on all levels show toward it.
Our president certainly shows no respect for the Constitution; the judicial system doesn't either. Don't all elected officials swear to defend the Constitution when being sworn into office after being elected? What has happened?

When our own Cayuga County legislators change a law that will re-set their own term limit of 12 years being elected to that position; does that show us what kind of people we have in office? Doesn't this have something to do with the constitutional make-up of our laws? Or should I have said, “make-up of their laws they have?”

What about the Constitution of New York state on gambling? Why do we have a three-person New York state run government? Bruno, Silver and whoever the governor is at the time. When I was in high school there were still three branches of government in both state and federal levels. Now that only shows up at election time. What happened? Is this another movement of progress? Wow.
