Bush administration will tear down our democracy

Saturday, July 7, 2007 11:38 PM EDT

I truly believe that the goal of the Bush administration is to dismantle our democracy. In addition to the many lies that have been told by this administration, the Bush contingent continues to flagrantly break the long established laws of our land, including bans on torture, the rights of habeas corpus, and bans on eavesdropping and wiretapping of citizens without warrants, to name just a few.
This administration must be held responsible. The commutation of Libby's sentence is just one more flagrant denial that the laws of our land apply to anyone in his administration. It is up to us as citizens and up to the Congress to stop this dismantling of our democracy.

If this administration is not held accountable we will be complicit in the demise of our democracy.

" Unfortunately, Chris is right on this one as far as the legal points go. And by the way, we don't live in a democracy... it's a democratic republic, big difference. If you're going to bash the system, you should at least know what the system is in the first place! "

" Laura, not to worry, there is an election next year and you can replace this President with the law abiding Clintons. "

" Ms. Campbell, you really should have done some research before you embarrassed in the paper. Libby had his jail term commuted, not the felony conviction, probation or 250K fine. It is well within the President's powers to do so, just ask Bill Clinton. Break what laws? You are long on rhetoric and short on facts, the typical liberal, emotion over intellect. Do you have difinative proof that the US is torturning people? If so, I'd really be interested in seeing it. So, you want to grant the US citizen's constitutional right of Habeus Corpus on non-US people who are deemed enemy combatants? Interesting way to fight the bad guys. The wiretaps are legal and have been deemed so by the law of the land. The only ones they are tapping are between people in the US communicating with know terrorist suspects and vice versa. I guess when you live in liberal la-la land, we shouldn't pry into the lives of people trying to kill us. I also find it pretty sad that people like you think the US is that fragile. Bush isn't the enemy, radical Islam is. You, Ms. Campbell, provide the perfect example as to why a liberal should never be in the highest office in the land. The "head in the sand" approach will do nothing but get people killed. "

" Though I do not have any love for the Bush administration, I do not believe they are trying to destroy the Democracy, if they were, the first thing they would do is repeal the 8 year term limit on the precedency. Also they would start putting out much more propaganda than they have done so far. The patriot act is a terrifying stab at our constitution, and yes they definatly have used "national security" to take away civil liberties which all terrible facist states do, but I don't believe they are trying to intentionally rip down our government. The Bush administration falls into a group that loves the thought of "increased police powers". They feel that the police wont bother them, only everyone else who speaks their minds. If Bush does however try to change the term limit of 8 years in any way, watch out. "
