Jordan Post Office hosts Passport Fair
The Jordan Post Office will have a “Passport Fair” during Erie Canal Days next week.

The office at 9 Mechanic St. will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, for passport photos and applications.

United States residents will need a passport to travel abroad beginning Jan. 1, 2008. Passports can take up to 14 weeks to be issued.

Adults should bring an original or certified copy of their birth certificate, photo identification and one other form of ID. All minors and children under 14 must be accompanied by both parents in most situations.

Costs for applicants 14 and older are $67 plus a $30 execution fee to the U.S. Postal Service. Applications for those under 14 cost $52 plus the $30 fee. Photo services will be available on site for $15.

Man charged with ability impaired

An Auburn man was charged by the Auburn Police Department Tuesday with allegedly driving a vehicle under the influence of two prescription drugs that made him dizzy and leaving the scene of a property damage accident after striking a parked car.

David T. Rabuano, 50, of Apt. 1, 97 Steel St., was charged with the misdemeanor of operating a motor vehicle with ability impaired and the vehicle and traffic infraction of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Police said Rabuano's vehicle struck another vehicle parked on Pulaski Street June 21. The hit vehicle had front-end damage that required it to be towed. Police said Rabuano's vehicle was followed by an onlooker who also called police. According to police, Rabuano said he was dizzy from two prescription drugs.

Man charged with forged prescription

A Montour Falls man was arrested last week by the Auburn Police Department on the charge he presented a forged prescription at Walgreens for the painkiller Dilaudid.

Eric Rodriguez, 21, was charged with the felony of second-degree possession of a forged instrument. Police said the pharmacist alerted police of the troublesome prescription late Friday night. Rodriguez was arrested around 10:45 p.m.

Woman pleads guilty to assault

An Auburn woman pleaded guilty in Auburn City Court June 13 to hitting a 57-year-old man in the head with a pot May 26.

Diane L. Westlake, 46, with a last known address of Upper Apt., 49 Wall St., was sentenced to one year in Cayuga County Jail for the misdemeanor of third-degree assault in satisfaction of the felony of second-degree assault.

City police said the man blacked out from the blow and then walked to the police station after coming to his senses. He suffered a cut to his left eye and a laceration on the bridge of his nose that required six stitches.

Man gets six months for assault

An Auburn man was sentenced in Auburn City Court to six months in the Cayuga County Jail Thursday, June 26, a domestic incident Dec. 23.

Timothy D. Mitchell, 35, with a last known address of Apt. 1, 36 N. Fulton St., was sentenced for the misdemeanor of third-degree assault. Police said Mitchell pushed a woman against the wall and floor during the incident.

Mitchell's plea satisfied the original charges of two counts of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
